Apart from the booking in, I haven't seen my midwife yet. I have my 24 week appointment next week, then I will see her every four weeks until it is close to the birth, at which time the appointments will be every two weeks.

Well, I say I haven't seen her yet but I made an appointment because I had some important questions a couple of weeks ago and I felt like she started by telling me off because I wasn't "supposed" to see her until the 24 week appointment.... Despite being told by doctors that I shouldn't hesitate to make an appointment with them or the midwife if anything is worrying me.

Also, my pregnancy book says that by now I should be very familiar with what to expect at midwife check-ups, but I'm obviously not! I have no idea what to expect!

hi Moss,

I have just added a thread sorry! About the same thing I need advice too.

I dont want to give you the wrong information but I think my MW is being a lazy moo tbh.

I was told from week 36 you are supposed to see your midwife weekly that's the only bit I can help you on "sorry".

Take care

Hi ladies, ive seen mine less than last time but she did tell me they have made cut backs in visits now. I saw her at 8, 16 and 24 weeks. Im going every 4 weeks till 32 weeks then every 2 weeks till term. This suits me fine as so far no problems. :D

With my daughter I saw my MW every 4 weeks until the later stage (can't remember exactly) then it was 2 weeks.

You should be able to ring your midwife any time to ask any questions and if you feel you need reassurance.

I had a brilliant midwife who thought nothing was too much trouble and was always happy for you to ask the "stupid" questions. Luckily I've got the same midwife again but I have seen crap (scuse me) ones when mine has been on hols etc. and there's nothing worse.

I believe that if you don't get on with your MW you can request another but I don't know anyone who's done it.

Thanks. Once I had told her about my problem she was understanding and sympathetic, but in the beginning she went on and ON about how I wasn't supposed to make an appointment until 24 weeks. I was almost in tears and nearly left without mentioning what I had come to talk to her about. My husband was there and felt the same way, so I wasn't just being overly-sensitive. I find it strange that I am not officially getting any check-ups until I am six months pregnant. They must miss a lot of early complications here in Dundee!

I saw my midwife at booking in which was about 10-11 weeks, then I saw her at 15 weeks and then saw my new one today at 25 weeks but that was only because she wanted to meet me or it would have been 28 weeks. I'll see her again at 29 weeks for my bloods and then I'm not sure to be honest!

saw her at 13 weeks for booking in 16 weeks and on tuesday just gone at 21 weeks, will see her every 4 weeks until 30 I think then every 2 until 36 weeks then every week.

Oh and by the way my booking-in was at 19 weeks! I was dying to have SOMETHING to make me feel pregnant by then! I had my 12 week scan already, but it felt like forever until something else happened.

I have a chart at home with when you should see midwife on it if its your first and for subsiquent pregnancies you should see midwife more if its your first!
I had booking in appointment at 8 weeks and an appointment at 15 weeks where I had the serum test for downs, my next appoinment will be at 25 weeks I'm not 100% sure after that will try and bring my nhs chart in tomorrow and tell you what it says on there!

Thanks. This is my first and to have to wait six months before getting the real midwife appointments is stressful! I have no idea what to expect apart from the reading I have been doing, which gives conflicting information anyway!

I think I am in a complainy mood today. Sorry everyone!

im sorry to say this but i think its the MW who dicates how often you are seen surely if you have had previous problems they would keep seeing you or does that not matter.. I fully understand if it is your first pregnancy and they see you more for reassurance, but like i say if you have had problems don't you think this should still apply?

sorry to charge in again but still really miffed about what happened today!

I agree with you. I don't think it's right they should treat you differently if you have already had a baby because they will also be the first ones to say that every pregnancy is different! Many people have a healthy pregnancy the first time and a terrible one the next, or vice versa.

I had a early prangnancy "class" as they called it at 10 weeks where there was loads of us andthey said take folic acid dont smoke etc

Booking in at 12 weeks

Appointment at 15 which was rushed

Nice appointment at 24

And another good one at 28

I will see doctor at 31

and midwife again at 34

then every 2 weeks after

thats how it is here but think its different elsewhere

I am in Birmingham.

In this pregnancy:

Scan at 10 weeks with antental check.
Antenatal and bloods at 14 weeks with MW at docs.
23/01/08 16 weeks bloods.
Antenatal with MW at docs 18 weeks
Anomally scan at 21 weeks with antenatal and consultant appt.
Antenatal at 22 weeks with temp MW at docs.
Antenatal at 26 weeks with new MW at docs
Antenatal and consultant appointment 28 weeks with bloods

Next MW appt antenatal at docs 12.5.08
Next consultant appt - same day

Then every 2 weeks for both after that, as need extra scans to monitor growth of bubs.

So, here, I get to see my team a lot. However, as those who have followed my story know, this hasn't meant there hasn't been a few cock ups. Do think you should have seen your MW more though x

I saw my MW at 13 weeks, then again about 3-4 weeks later and next appt is on 28th. Not sure what to expect after that!

 Some of these are really shocking. I feel really lucky!

I saw a midwife at 8 weeks she came to our house she sat down and we had a good 2hour long talk about all the things she needed to know about the family history and asked all the questions she needed. It wasn't the one who is my actual midwife though as mine was ill but they wanted to see me at 8weeks. She took blood and was gonna take a urine sample but I was too shy! she told me about who and when I needed to phone to book my 12week scan and that I will need to book too see the midwife at 14weeks.

Then I seen my actual midwife at 14 weeks. Phoned in the morning had a appointment in the afternoon. She booked me in for my next one which is next Wednesday 2 days after my 20 week scan. The 14 week one wasn't overly exciting she just talked about the blood test results and how I was feeling after the infection I had and just a chance to meet her, and I got to listen to the heart beat too! I don't know when the next one will be after Wednesday but they assured us that if we had any worries contact them if I was feeling ill had any questions...anything at all.

I got my booking in at 11 weeks, it was a little late as she had been on holiday. Then again at 16 and could have seen either her or GP at 25, have appointment for 28 weeks and will need another at 34 with her and other ones later whihc i haven't cheked yet. I see a GP inbetween times at 7, 22 and 31 weeks.

My surgery makes sure you have some sort of contact once a month and then later on every two weeks, but not always with my MW. I can call her though if i need advice.

Sandi

I had my booking in at around 7 weeks, 12 week with MW after scan, an appointment this afternoon for blood test results, got one at 20 weeks after scan, so every four weeks were i am

I've got my seventh  appt today. Then I will have another in two weeks because I've got to have an anti d injection at 28 weeks.
