Ive been reading the thread on hospital bag and was wondering how much stuff you actually need to take with you?

Im not planning on staying in hospital any longer than absolutely necessary and will be wanting to go home as soon as I can walk ( will probably need epidural ) as I hate hospitals and have a severe phobia about them.

There just seems to be an awfull lot on the list. Thanks.

I didn't plan on a hospital birth so didn't even have a bag packed when I went into early labour, I just grabbed a few random bits then my hubby brought extra stuff in the next day that I forgot. So you OH could always bring stuff in if you need it, but you know what men are like!

Def lots of cheap granny pants, I got some from tesco for about £3, more pads than you think as hubby had to get me more, you really go through them first couple of days. A few snacks as hospital food crap. I also needed extra trackies/pjs brought in as I leaked, yuck! Some flip flops for shower and some nice toiletries to make you feel human again after giving birth is good. Plastic bags for your dirty clothes are a good idea, my waters were running like a tap on way in so my clothes were minging!

Baby will need about 3 bibs, vests and baby grows incase they get sick/poo on them. A pack of nappies will be plenty, I used hospital ones! Babys going home clothes like coat, hat, mitts and blanket for car seat esp now its cold. You really don't need as much as the lists say and a lot of it depends how long your in labour for and what will make you personally feel happy and comfortable.

clean clothes for you, a couple of clothes for baby (incase the poo, wee, or sick alot lol), nappies, something to freshen yourself up in, and money for drinks etc.

really that will doas with a first and natural birth they only keep you in one night unless things dont go to plan inwhich case your partner can bring more stuff accordingly

I agree with roxane, you don't need that much, just show your partner where all the baby stuff is kept at home so he could bring it in if you needed!

With my first I really over packed!! I had to use my big suitcase, And hardly used any of it. With my second I took two sets of baby grows & vests, I was only there for about 6 hours after birth and only used one set, plus going home cloths. Took about a quarter bag of nappies, couple of changes of pj,s, pads knickers and bras. My oh brought me a change of clothes and if I needed anything else he brought it for me. The one thing you do need plenty of tho is pads and knickers!! I was surprised how many I got through.
