Waters broke at 35+6 days (but early hours of 35+5 days). Induced at 36 weeks when Dan was born. Although not in SCBU (apart from injections) we spent a week on the ward as Dan had jaudince and low blood sugar. We did get our own room though as the light from the bili bed keeps other people up.

.............back a week later with bronchiltis, but that's another story!

I don't blame you for not wanting to stay. I HATED it and couldn't wait to leave, I felt like I would never go home.

I had Libby at 6.37am on the sunday morning (Easter Sunday ) and was out by 11am the next day - I had a VB and epidural, so if you don't count the night I spent there in labour, I was in 1 night

I was in overnight with Mason, but had a tear with Brody and was in for 4 days. I SO wanted to go home

I would opt for the homebirth to avoid the hospital as much as possible but as this is my first relatives and friends are saying that the hospital is a safer option as I dont know what to expect. Im liking the replys which allowed you to go home the same day lol ..sounds like you had to beg mind you, if all is well I will kick up a fuss also ..and if I have to stay in uggghhh dont bear thinking about. Thanks for all your replys..xx

Austin was my first they're quite happy to attempt home births with a first baby (provided you're classed as 'low-risk'), they would transfer you to hospital at the first sign of anything going wrong. If you seriously want it try speaking to your midwife about it.

I was in for four days after the night she was born. No reason but its the law in Hungary. Babies and mothers spend the first four days in the hospital so that if any complications arise they are in the best place, its also to get a feeding pattern sorted out and so you have help with breastfeeding.
I didnt mind at all but i was in a private hospital which was like a hotel, in our own room and Richard stayed with us everynight so we got to spend our first few days together with no worried about going out for shopping etc. It was lovely. Plus i had the internet and my laptop so i managed to get on here and talk to you guys lol

That sounds great. The main reason I hated staying in was because at night I was completely alone. I had to do all the feeds, changes, sit up by myself. When its your first its pretty scary! When my OH came to visit, all I did was sleep, so I felt like I never saw him for the first week. If he had been allowed to stay, I probably wouldn't have wanted to leave!

I was in 2 nights with Evie because I had a third degree tear and had to wait until I pooed!

I also had problems breastfeeding (Evie was big, 9lbs1oz, and decided she didn't need to eat for a bit!) so stayed to get help with that.

Do you have a midwife run birth centre anywhere near you as these are much nicer places, not so like a hosp. Smaller wards, more relaxed in general. If you HAVE to stay in hosp for any reason e,g bad tear, c-section you can transfer to one of these.

I had Evie at the birth centre, transferred to big hosp to be stitched and put back together and then was back at the birth centre within 8hours. I WAS NOT staying at the hosp, hated it.

I went for a home birth, mainly because I hate hospitals and really didn't want to have to stay overnight in one away from the support of my hubby. I did end up having to transfer to hospital for stitches as the midwife wasn't confident due to the "interesting" nature of my tears, but as I had a home birth we were allowed to go straight home once they had finished. Highly recommend it if you are worried about hospitals as the more relaxed you are the better during labour.
