HI ladies

Quick question, would my partner and I qualified of getting a housing benefit if we rent a flat?

I work 20 hours but want to reduce it down to 16 hours and partner works 20 hours also, we cant get WTC and CTC because hubby thinks we overqualified and he dont want to get any help makes things difficult for me.

what shall I do?

I can tell you with my OH working 40 hours and me not working we get family tax creadit, child tax credit (that everyone gets), some housing benefit and reduced council tax bill. so yes you should get something we end up with about £145 a week in total. Thats with one child and one income on minimum wage. x

You may as well just take the time and fill in the forms and see what they say xx

or don't be lazy and either both or one have a full time job?

Bit harsh don't you think??

The OP has come on for advice NOT to be slated??

You don't know their circumstances so prob best you don't accuse them of being lazy!

Agree with Jaxx. Out of order Bobbie!

if they where lazy none of them would work what's the difference between one working full time or two part time there still earning the same and paying the same tax. full time jobs in a lot of places are hard to get but less competition for part time as less people want them.

maybe a little harsh but if you need benefits to help you.. look for a job with more hours.. if your not financially stable when planning on having a baby and need help with housing.............

it's harsh how me and OH work from 8-6 5 days a week, and because he earns enough on his own to support us all we wouldn't get no help but yet still fund others benefits.

gets my goat!! there's plenty of jobs out there, people are just picky.

Do you know the OP circumstances??? There may be a reason they both work part time?

It is wrong for you to judge as you just don't know!! This forum isn't about judging, calling people lazy etc etc it's for advice and help!!

Bobbie that comment was out of order :\

To the OP I'd apply for them hun or ring up welfare rights maybe? See if they can advise you a little better x Or maybe try the money saving experts forum? x

is it her fault you both work? she.never asked for opinions on there hours i don't think it was needed.

martins money tips is great i think there is a one off payment towards your bills if your under a certain income too its about £150 i think its for the extra it costs in winter but not 100% x

Or it could be that they are sharing childcare which if they were both working full time wouldn't be able to afford! There are a lot of people out there shafting the system and contributing nothing to society that qualify higher on the scale for attack!

Ps give the WTC a call, look the number yo on your local council website. I called them and spoke to a very helpful bloke. Do it as soon as you can because they don't backdate. It also makes a big difference if you are paying for childcare.

Completely agree with all the other girls comments bobbie that was out of order!

I work part time and my fella works full time and we're not entitled to any sort of help as his wages could support us both. In my eyes we are very lucky you included bobbie. You should never judge anyone who is clearly trying to support themselves whether they need benefits or not, especially if you don't know there personal circumstances!!

So get off your high horse, if threads like this offend you then don't read them. And heaven forbid you ever need the help of our benefit system. Wouldn't want someone as judgemental as yourself assuming your lazy, I imagine it wouldn't be nice at all!!

ooh i hold my hand up and admit to being lazy, im on jobseekers atm looking for a part time job but not very hard as im also going to college studying to get into uni. my oh works at a supermarket and so cant get more than a 20 hr contract we get benefits but dont qualify for council tax or housing benefit. i think that since im aiming for a career to fun us once ive finished and ive worked since i was 18 that im claiming back all the tax ive paid over the years while i care for my 9 month old and study for a better career and better life. i think its a bit cheeky to judge anyone especially if they actually work. i dont judge redbear for being a SAHM or Bobbie for working full time or anyone else, its just unfair to do so.

id apply for the lot OP, after all they can only say no, it cant hurt to try

Im not judging but y are u reducing your hours to 16? is it so u can get HB etc?

I dont work and my oh works 37.5 hours a week, also adding in as many shifts as possible to cover us. Dont think im entitled to anything tho x
