I am considering planning a home birth.

I am high risk of getting preeclampsia however if I remain healthy I am considering trying to convince my midwife to support me in a homebirth as I think this is my best chance at a vbac.

I was very traumatised by my birth experience last time. Not because of labour but the amount of medical intervention shocked me so much when I had planned a water hypnobirth. At one stage I had 8 tubes/wires coming from my body and I couldn't even take my top off when I was overheating. The midwife had to cut me out of it and place a gown over me. I understand that in the medical circumstances they probably saved me and my son but the experience was traumatic. I had counselling. I really grieved for the loss of those early days when I should have been bonding and we were still in hospital. I can't see me being very relaxed in a hospital.

It has been over 3 years since my section so my risk of rupture is low and if my blood pressure remains normal I don't see the need for me to book another section.

Any thoughts/experience on home vbacs?

Sorry no experience of vbac as this is my first baby, but I've said from the start I would like a homebirth. Apparently it makes you feel a lot more in control of things than in the hospital, more relaxed environment etc. therefore less painful. I'm mainly planning a homebirth due to anxiety issues, I pretty much live at home apart from popping to work occasionally! I only really feel completely comfortable at home. I do hope you get your homebirth, they say that as long as the pros and cons are added up and they feel ok for you to have a vbac rather than an elective section, I don't see why trying for a homebirth makes a lot of difference. The only thing is, do you live close to the hospital if they did need to get you there? xx

I had a wonderful vbac, mine was in hospital though. Vbacs are a lot safer than some would make you believe :)

I live really far from the hospital. Well 20 minutes but they're closing it in april so ill have to go to the next one which will take an hour.

I am suitable for vbac I was told before I was discharged last time that as long as I don't get pregnant too soon there is no reason why I should need another section (save for emergencies at the time)

I really want a vbac, I'm just feeling so anxious about the hospital closing and they won't have built the new maternity unit yet so I am worrying there won't be enough beds or midwives etc... the long journey to hospital worries me too. I feel like I just want to know where I'll be and if I plan a home birth I'll feel more comfortable with the situation.

My mother wanted a natural birth with my brother but had PE. She didn't get a CS (these days I'm sure she would) but ended up sedated and had a forceps delivery. She was very traumatized by the whole experience and it took her years to get over. She was determined to have a HB when pregnant with me 8 years later. She had no problems with an good HB experience. She had a hospital birth with my younger sister but it was also natural and with no issues with PE.
