High glucose result

I had chicken shish kebab with cheesy chips for dinner friday night and my readings were fine. Not great for weight wise but I have only put on 3lb up till now so not so worried. Apparently the fat of the cheese helps lower the GI of the chips as your body processes them together. I could just be lucky tho.

I am going to buy some shredded wheat at the weekend and try that with some sliced fruit on top next week. X

I did actually buy a low GI diet book ages ago before I was pregnant, gonna have to try and dig it out! x

actually, just thought of something else. If you eat (and take pills, insulin whatever) and then go for a walk, in most cases, your sugar level drops dramatically. :)

Yeah that's what I was told by my friend today who had GD.

So I had my 3hr appointment today and been told to measure my glucose level 3 times a day. Today was 2hrs after meals, tomorrow before meals, next day after meals etc...

My results today were 5.6, 6.0 and 6.1. I'm assuming this is ok?? x

You should be given targets for what they expect. Mine is 7.8 but that is only 1 hour after meals. I ahve to do mine 4 times a day which is fasting result first thing and then 1 hour after breakfast, lunch and dinner. Finally got into a good routine doing it as is easy to forget.

I found that once they explain it to you and you start using the monitor it is not as scary as it seemed before. Good luck. X

Sorry to keep bothering you haha!

The pre meal target (right before I eat) in my book is given as 5.5. My pre lunch reading is 4.9. So is that good? Does the target of 5.5 mean the reading should be lower than that?

My 2hrs post meal target is 7.5. After my dinner last night the reading was 6.1. So is this good or not? Not sure what they mean by target?? x

The target is that it should be below that amount. Differs by nhs trust but mine says that if you have more than 2 readings over your targets in a week then they will consider the next step for management e.g. metformin.

As long as you keep them under you are doing well. I have found sometimes they are a lot lower or higher than others, sometimes for no reason (apparently stress etc. can affect them) but have not had a reading over target yet.

Those readings seem good to me. X

They sound really good to me! I could never get my breakfast reading below my target (7.8), except when I didn't eat anything (yes I really did try that one day!!!). Carry on getting under the cut off levels, you'll be fine.

Ok yay, glad I seem to be on the right track!

Thanks for all your help! :-) x

I have to take mine six times a day. My pre meal target is 5.5 and my two hour after meal target is 7.8

I was told that if I'm over for three days in a row then I need to give them a ring... So its different advice in different areas :)

I had the GTT test with my second pregnancy and was high so diet controlled initially but ended up on insulin (around 18 units a day over 3 injections before meals) around 34 weeks and Oliver was delivered at 38 weeks weighing 7lb 6oz.
This time I was told to start finger testing at 12 weeks and got a reading of 12 after some soup so straight onto insulin the next day :( I'm currently on 79 units a day (injections 3 times a day) plus metformin twice a day and due to start a longer lasting type of insulin for overnight from tomorrow's appointment :( Having excellent care from both the antenatal and the diabetic team and hoping they will deliver this one at 38 weeks as although growing nicely at the moment I'm so worried about he amount of medication I'm taking and still have another 7-8 weeks to go and will be on a huge dose of insulun by then....
