Thought I would report back on our visit to see the medicinal herbalist. OH made the appointment as he is getting very impatient at our lack of conceiving. We both had an hour with the herbalist each going in on our own. OH went first and he was asked all kinds of lifestyle questions and specific questions about the two recent sperm tests he's had (both showed low motility). He was given a mixture containing yarrow, lavender, saw palmetto, sarsparilla and liquorice.

I was second and she took comprehensive notes on all aspects of my lifestyle. She said that she thought the pill was not yet out of my system (even though I stopped taking it in February) and gave me liquid agnus castus (which is apparently more potent than in pill form) of which I take 10 drops in water in the morning. I also have a mixture of marigold, mugwort, ginger, cinnamon, liquorice and sarsparilla which I have to take twice daily - and it tastes absolutely foul! She said that because I was a fairly cold person, I needed to take herbs that would help warm me up and feel less slugish. She advised both me and OH, that during our daily shower we should alternate bursts of hot and cold water on our pelvic regions in order to help stimulate our circulation - lol, I did laugh when she said it but having tried it the last couple of mornings, it is quite invigorating! The other advice we were given was that we should start eating more organic food, we also needed more proptein in our diets, to aid sperm and egg production. I was told to give up diet coke, which is the only form of caffeine I take, oh and no squash either. I must drink water or juice. We also have appointments for the GUM clinic on Monday just to see whether we have any infections that could be harming our fertility.

She said that if we go for further investigation through our doctors that it would be worth asking to be checked that I am not making antibodies to his sperm. Apparently as I was quite an allergic kid (asthma, hayfever, cats, fur, straw, grass allergies) my body has a habit of making too many antibodies for things. We have also been advised to book up for an infrared sauna to help get rid of toxins - we were hoping to go this Saturday but they were booked up. Oh and she also advised 'on all fours' as the recommended BD position :)

We are also taking Solgar's Formula V vit tablets and some omega 6 tablets, the Solgars have got to be the most expensive vits in the world!

Prices in case anyone is thinking of booking a visit:- Our 1st appointment was £80 and we are booked to go back and see her in two weeks time. The price included the herbal remedies we were given but still struck me as quite expensive.

She told us both that the last couple that she had seen for fertility reasons had conceived their first child through IVF but had wanted to conceive naturally with their second. They were pregnant within 6 weeks of their first visit! She did say that this is pretty unusual and that really she is just helping us get our bodies into the optimum state for conception. OH is, of course, quite convinced that we will be pregnant within 6 weeks  I suspect it may take a bit longer and am still a little skeptical about the herbal mixtures!

Anyway thought that it may interest some of you guys :)

Hi,

That all sounds really interesting.

I like natural remedies for things. I'm into my herbal teas.

Keep us posted on how everything goes :D

I also think that herbs can be very powerful and could help you a lot.

In fact I have just ordered some herbal formulas over the internet from a herbalist. I live in an out of the way place and can't get to see a 'real person' so I have opted for a pre-made remedy with herbs that I think will be beneficial. I have also heard similar reports of equally quick success after a relatively short period of time in taking the herbs.

Good luck and keep us posted! I would like to hear how you go.

i was considering going to see a medical herbalist, but £80
i am going to start taking agnus castus as my max luteal phase is 10 days. I also looked up a herb called unicorn root which was used to prevent m/c years ago so i would be quite interested to ask them about this one. Does anyone know if dr herbs is a medical herbalist as there are loads of them near me they seem to be in every shopping centre.

Herbs have very powerful effect, so I hope dearly for you and your oh that they work and you do have your baby soon.

Do you have to stick to the plan 100% ?

Thanks for the replies girls :D

I will definitely keep you all posted bagpuss :)

I'd be interested to hear the herbal formulas that you have ordered sookie, and I'd love to hear whether they taste as bad as the stuff I'm taking

Claire, I thought it was expensive too but OH is paying so who am I to complain ;) ! I have heard a lot of good things about agnus castus. My herbalist said that I would probably be surprised with a very short cycle this month as I have just started taking it - maybe as short as three weeks! Strangely, and it maybe just coincidence, normally AF is fairly heavy and stays for the full 7 days but it started on Tuesday and has now gone! It was also very light - hopefully this is a sign that the pill is getting out of my system and I will be returning to a pre-pill cycle state!

Thanks mrs_tommo :) The plan was put forward as recommendations only, although the herbalist said that we would be more likely to have more luck the closer we followed her advice. I guess the bottom line is that regardless of whether we fall pregnant or not we will be healthier for doing this. I wanted to share the info here in case anyone else wanted to follow some of her suggestions - it would be great if someone got their BFP by following some of her advice :D

Also I have decided to start charting, to help get me find out a bit more about my cycle. I originally said that I didn't want to get into charting but I guess now that we've been trying for 10 months it would probably help :)

get yourself over to the chartstalkers thread then! We can always do with more charts to stalk to satisfy our cravings! :rotfl:
