Hi. My husband and I both work in the wine trade and as such consume quite large quantities in the course of our jobs. I am trying to 'spit' on the whole as dont want to hurt a baby if by some miracle I did manage to get pregnant, but my husband is still drinking as per normal. I said it would create 'drunk' sperm, so he got on the internet and couldnt find anything evidence to indicate that at all. A lot of theories online going both ways but nothing conclusive. Does anyone know more than we do? Am I over analysing our lifestyle?

Hi Clem

I don't think alcohol has an affect but i could be wrong. My OH drank heavily when i conceived DD but i suppose everyone is different. Maybe the other ladies can help you out on this xx

I believe alcohol does affect sperm count. When we were having problems TTC we were referred for IVF and my OH was asked numerous times how often / much he drank, including in the past. I'm not sure whether it reduces sperm count or whether it can damage healthy sperm. We were also told things like tight underwear, sitting down all day (which both allow the testies to get too warm) and diabetes can all have an effect on sperm.

Hi. My husband has said he will give up drinking for 2 weeks prior to my next ovulation. Do you think this will make any difference? I read somewhere that the sperm that are released are up to three months old. Is that right? It doesnt sound right!

Thank you so much for the above answers xxx

Hi Pippa Thanls for posting this. Really interesting. I think we will all be making a list of things OHs can and cant do now lol

You're welcome. I did the same after reading up on it all, my OH was not allowed to drink anything! I chilled out though after a while:)

Hi our urologist told us that it does. Especially if has loads in one night apparently it affects it so many months down the line as they are all at diff staged of development. He said that its better to have one drink each night rather than all at once but best to avoid altogether. My OH having none of it though thinks that having a reversal was enough trauma without being told cant drink at all. Was quite strict with him at first but have chilled out a bit now. Cant stop living your life what will be will be he says. xx

I think that moderation is the key... good luck to you :flower:
