I think i'm going to go mad!

Maia just cries all the time. Since DH left for work at 8am shes screamed more or less constantly and slept for only half an hour!

Each day that goes by seems to get worse, not better. I think its wind, and we are trying every wind remedy on the market, but nothing is helping.

I am at the end of my tether.

I feel awful for saying it, but I don't even like her that much at the moment. :(

First off

DON'T PANIC

The moer chilled you are, the more chilled baby is.
This might not seem much help, but it does (eventually) work.

Also, you are not a bad mum for not liking baby at the moment. We all went through it

if I were you, I would make sure she is fed, changed, and burped etc. then I would put some music on and dance around the roomwith her.

If that doesn't work, put her down in her cot / moses basket and leave her to cry for a bit and have a break.

PM me if you need to chat hun
xx

Thanks.

She finally fell asleep at quarter to 3. So I tried to sleep, but got woken up by a bloomin' double glazing salesman at quarter past 4!

Aww hun

What I did was put a note on the door saying newborn sleeping - only knock if it is urgent.

Even the postman left parcels next door.

Certainly worth a try

Have you tried 'white noise'? My son used to scream non stop when he was small, someone suggested to me putting on the hair dryer or the hoover and oddly enough it did seem to calm him down........
Also I know its rarely done these days but i also used to sometimes put him in his moses basket or buggy in the garden if the weather was fine. As long as your garden is secure and you can be there too or see them through the window (our garden at the time had high fencing all the way round)....?
Hope you find something which works for you soon, its a VERY trying time i remember it very well

what about holding her close to you and whisper sh and gradually increase the noise, it calms Teejy down sometimes, I read it in a magazine and it does work. Hows the cranial osteopathy going? Is it doing any good? I tool Thomas for his second session and he has been grizzly all afternoon, I think it might be because he needs to poo though!!

Overthemoon, I don't have a garden, which doesn't help with that 'trapped' feeling I have, especially not being able to drive at the moment!

Monster_Munch I know you are right about being stressed to a degree, since DH has been home she's been as good as gold, no doubt he wonders what I complain about!

Missac I don't think the cranial osteopathy did alot for her really, the osteopath said she didn't need anymore treatment so thats it I guess. Shshing on works on Maia if she's only a little tetchy. When its the 'proper' cry it doesn't work, and neither does the dummy.

I did play her some classical music and walk round the room with her, that calmed her, but only for the half hour I was walking around for!

Couple of things that might be worth trying :

Infacol to help with the wind - some friends of mine swore by it.
A fan facing away from baby or a ticking clock for white noise.

Another thing I notice is that your daughter is 3 weeks old. Without being funny - how's YOUR diet? My daughter had a very bad patch of not sleeping, crying constantly and always wanting to b'feed. I asked everyone for advice and received plenty, but then my OH started making me meals, as I wasn't getting to even eat breakfast until 4pm!

After MY diet improved, so did Erin's sleeping. My milk just wasn't rich enough as I wasn't eating enough. Once it was proper milk again, Erin slept for over 2 hours each nap and was MUCH happier. :)

I think theres some good advice already so I cant really add to it but just wanted to give you these

Thanks everyone.

My diet, well yes you make a very good point Mice_Elf. Ihave mainly been living on cakes and biscuits.

I went shopping with Mum last night to get out of the house for a bit and made sure I bought plenty of proper food.

I think we might have actually identified the problem. I think she has a bit of reflux.

Since yesterday evening we have been holding her upright for half an hour after feeds, also propped up her cot mattress a bit. She is still bringing up some of her feeds, but not as much as before. She also seems a bit more settled and she hasn't cried yet this morning. Although she might just be having a good day!

I will ask the GP at our appointment tomorrow

My little chap has reflux, that came to a peak at around 3 weeks when he was throwing up whole bottles. He screamed constantly because of it, and because he must have been hungry all the time with throwing up the feeds. Doctor recognised it straight away and put him on Gaviscon powders which have helped tremendously. So do go and see the doctor. Also give the Infacol a try, it really does work. Totally sympathise with the way you've been feeling. I had a couple of days like that last week. This motherhood lark isn't easy! :? Good Luck!

We have been using the infacol for a couple of weeks now, I think it helps a bit.

Jenni, she doesn't bring up whole feeds, but I'd say it was more than a 'posset' and often doesn't happen until quite some time after her feed (over an hour sometimes).

She is putting on weight well so its not like she's not getting enough, but each time I feed her she seems to bring up a bit more of the feed, it happens especially after a breastfeed, possibly because she is more reclined during the feed?

Will discuss it with the GP tomorrow.

Can't offer any more advice as everything I can think of has already been said but just wanted to give you these!

Good luck at the docs tomorrow!

It sounds like colic. Ellie was like this from 3 weeks to 3 months. She would only settle down upright on us. A lot of the time that was the only way she could get some sleep. The vacuum cleaner calmed her down instantly (white noise again), but as soon as it was switched off she would start screaming again. One thing that did help was folding her legs upto her chest a few times, followed by stroking downwards on her tummy a few times, then repeating again with folding her legs etc.

With Ellie she would start 1hrs after the start of every feed. It was awful at the time, thankfully when it stopped we were left with a lovely happy smiley baby. It will get better.

Thanks that gives us hope!

The Dr has given me gaviscon to put in her formula when she has bottles. See how it goes!

Glad you saw the doctor, hope things a bit better for you. How has Maia been with the Gaviscon? Might be too early for you to see any difference. Sometimes Jude used to throw up ages after a feed, as you said.

Maybe co-incidence but she seems much better with the gaviscon. We've had a pretty cheerful day from her!

She also slept very well last night. Fingers crossed!

Spoke too soon!

She seems a bit constipated. She just passed a poo like a like triangular block!

Has anyone elses babies become constipated after starting gaviscon or do you think its a co-incidence?

What can I do about constipation, if anything?

:?

when Sam has constipation, I massage his tummy and give him water to ease the poo out hence liquidising him.

Do water either midway through a feed or after though as you don't want to confuse her and fill her up with it,hence she will cry then through hunger too.

Also, water has to be boiled and cooled, sorry to state obvious  and I usually give Sam around 1oz. Hope this helps
