We have been trying for number one for over a year now. I've just booked my first doctors appointment for the end of the month. I'm terrified of doctors so it is a big deal for me, hoping I can get my brave pants on and it will be constructive!

Hi there we've been trying for no 2 for 17 months now. I saw the doctor after 9 months and they ran blood tests to check hormone levels and whether I'd ovulated (all ok) I was also sent for a scan (also ok). Roll forward another 6 months and a laparoscopy for me and semen analysis for my hubby, and turns out he has a bit of a sperm issue. Glad we finally have some answers!

I know it's daunting but I'm glad we pursued it as now we can take action. I did have to be quite pushy with my doctor. Best of luck to you, be brave! X

Thanks, my husband has offered to come with me but if he does he has to tell his dad (who he works with) what he is up to and I don't want anyone to know so I think I'm going on my own for this one. Eek.

I imagine the first GP session will just be a planning where you go next type of consultation. Mine certainly didn't lunge into any unexpected action! It took a while for me to get from GP to fertility clinic (about 5 months) but mostly because of changes taking place with how services work in my area at the time. Wishing lots of luck and courage. x

Went today. I've got to go to have blood taken on Friday and then wait for an ultrasound appointment. Eek. At least things are getting started now.

I had my blood test results today and I am normal. Not sure if that is good or bad! I have a massive bruise where they took the blood.

Now waiting for my ultrasound in January.

Snowbee I'm having my bloods done a week on Monday!! I've had ultrasounds, hsg etc late last year due to me being hospitalised for a savage pelvic infection, so just bloods for me How are you feeling about it all? I'm really excited lol! Xx

I'm not really sure how I'm feeling. I'm a bit excited that we might get somewhere but also terrified about people prodding at me and then saying I'm ill or got something seriously wrong with me etc.

My doctor was pretty convinced my bloods would show I needed to go on metformin amongst other things so now they came back normal I'm not sure what to think.

Has your OH had many tests? Mine is pooping himself now about giving his sample. Wish I could trade with him and do it and he could get poked and prodded about!

We have been trying for number two for 12 months after this cycle it's so frustrating. At what point is it suggested that you should seek advice from the GP didn't have any problems with my son but that was 7 yrs ago now would be nice to get a bit of advice from you guys x x

I think the guidelines are 12 months for ladies under 35 and 6 months if you are older. If you know you may have problems you can go sooner.

How long did it take you with your son?

Kelly - I approached the doctor after 12 months also trying for baby no 2. We had all the tests and turns out hubby's has low sperm morphology. We are now about to start private fertility treatment. I felt better for feeling we were being proactive about it as was starting to get down about it not happening. Perhaps you could book an appt with your gp and see what their advice is? X

Not been on for a while as I've had internet troubles connecting to the site. Seems to have sorted itself now.

AF finally arrived Boxing day, been waiting since July so I suppose that is good. Ultrasound app is end of Jan and then doctors app after that to discuss findings etc. Fingers crossed for 2014!

Im terrified of doctors too- ive seen good ones and bad ones but you always remember the bad ones more! Trying to face my fear and met a v good GP recently so feel a bit better about it.

if your results are normal (was it day 21 bloods?) and youve now got AF then you may have started ovulating normally now and will have more regular cycles. Probably the stress of going to the doctors that kick-started it lol. It is strange how our bodies play tricks on us, especially when were analysing it constantly or stressing about ttc, but please, please remember than 12 months is completely normal for ttc and if youre bloods were good this month you could get pregnant at any time.

My OH has put off doing a SA for at least a year now ha. The doctor gave him a bit of a grilling at my last doctors appt and now he says he doesn't mind doing it, but he's still scared to find out theres something wrong. Dont think he wants that wake-up call just yet and wants to enjoy himself while he's young and childfree, which i understand. He believes in mind over matter, so if he ignores the problem it will magically go away grrrr. The SA is absolutely nothing compared to what ive already had done and been through physically/emotionally, so men should just do it and not complain lol x

No it was just a normal blood test, couldn't do anything more specific as my period had vanished. I don't think I ovulate, I've never had a positive ov test so either I'm doing it wrong or I'm not.

I know it is normal to go over a year but as the doctor pointed out we are getting on a bit so don't have the luxury of time on our side.

Men hey! My oh has been stressing about SA too, I'm assuming that will be one of the things we discuss/arrange at my next doctors app at the end of Jan.
