Does anyone else's LO not like being taken out? He is ok on busy roads where there is a lot going on for him to nose at but as soon as you take him in either a shop or a quiet street he starts grunting (this is his way of warning you he is going to kick off any minute) and then the screams and cries come. It happens everytime we take him out.

Does anyone have any tips on how i can change this?! im at a loss and its' putting me off taking him out on my own :(

Do you have a sling? DD used to do this because she wanted to be up in the sling so she could see more  Next time he's like that try a sling (or your arms if you don't have a sling yet) and see if that works. DD has now mostly stopped doing this and it is occasional rather than every single shop,

How weird, I was going to post the exact same thing earlier  but then computer crashed after I wrote it all out.

I'm finding it difficult taking Connie out at the moment as she moans everytime I stop to look at something or if we have to queue. I thought she might be complaining as she's too hot when we're in a shop as I have her dressed for outside conditions  . She's not happy until we pick her up and can grab at everything  . I have a flashing singing cow she loves which keeps her amused but I thought I might get some funny looks walking around a shop with a mooing singing cow  . I was thinking about the sling but I prefer the pram when shopping as I haven't got the strength or energy to have her in the sling and carry my shopping, also it's not easy to go to the loo with a baby in a sling  .

She's like this in the car eseat also and we get a shouted at on every car journey :wall: .

I see other babies asleep in their prams and wonder why mine is sitting there wriggling and shouting. I'm hoping it's a phase  .

I have pelvic problems so I can't take her out in the sling as I can only carry for short times. I take her out in the pushchair but I always take a sling with me. So in shops I sling her when she wants it and then out and about and moving between shops I push her. Actually, she wants carried all the time, she much prefers being in a sling but as I am physically not able (I use crutches at work, it's not a little problem) I have her in the pushchair until she grumps and then I carry her for a bit. When I get too sore I put her back down. The more supportive the carrier the longer I can carry her - in my experience the most supportive is a mei tai made from woven wrap fabric with wide straps. Then woven wraps.

I have to say I find it much easier to go to the loo with her in a sling than a pushchair - that way I can use any cubicle not just disabled ones. But the pushchair is way better for carrying shopping.

DD has cried in the car at every red light for about 6 months. We got her a new car seat which is still rear facing but is bigger and higher up (the Britax First Class SI) and now she seems much happier - I think she can see out the window and that is making a huge difference. If I'd realised that I would have got the car seat ages ago and saved a lot of stress! I can't make promises but it has certainly worked for us.

Is he in a mummy facing pushchair hun? Baillie hated that - she wanted to face the other way from around 3 months! She would just scream until she got her way.

Thanks for the replies

I thought it might be the above reason too. But he has been facing forwards for the last few weeks and he is just the same.

Dylan is like this too in his car seat. If we stop at lights he is TERRIBLE. Just screams until we start moving (and there isn't a tear in sight!)

We dont have a sling as i prefer the pram whilst out and about. He is really heavy and i dont think i could carry him for long in one. I might end up having to resort to one soon though as it's a complete nightmare taking him out :wall:

I can't carry DD in my arms for 5 minutes yet I can carry her in a good carrier for more than an hour. Assuming you don't have any medical issues like me then with a decent carrier you can carry him for another couple of years without him being too heavy. If you do buy one look for advice on babywearing forums. As a general rule of thumb if you can buy it in Mothercare it probably is not a very supportive carrier and at the age he is at now would hurt your back. However there are lots of carriers that would be very comfortable for both of you that you can find online or if you are very lucky at a specialist sling shop (there are only a few in the UK though :( )
