Hi, I'm interested to know everyones experiences with having sex after a natural delivery
I am a ftm and am not sure what to expect, I'm 3 weeks PP at the moment, my midwife said to wait 6 weeks as otherwise it will 'sting like hell' (I had 6 labial stitches) but I don't feel sore or anything anymore so I'm no sure if I should give it another couple of weeks just incase...
Also does everything 'go back to normal'? My OH is very honest and would probably tell me if it didn't so that would be a bit embarressing :x
Also when do you get your first period? Want to get that out the way... Or do I not have them because I'm breastfeeding?
Thanks :-)

I'm a first time Mum and I waited till about 5 weeks post partum, I had about 5 internal stitches, we tried it and it hurt a lot, almost like it was too tight, probably from a bit of tensing up thinking it was going to hurt but it felt like my pubic bone was going to break so we left it for another week and tried again and after the initial stingy sort of feeling it was fine but I ached for about an hour afterwards, just felt really heavy down there. Since then me and my husband have had sex a few more times and it's been fine. Do what feels right for you, if you try and it doesn't work out don't worry about it! And I'm not sure about the periods as I've stopped breastfeeding and gone back on my pill x

Hiya, with my first I only waited about 3 weeks and it was fine (was younger and more horny!). This time round we waited 8 weeks, and it still stung the first couple of times.
I think after my first it went back to normal after a while, but it's sooo important to keep up the kegal/pelvic floor exercises to make that happen. Now I've had my second it's not quite the same, but I'm hoping if I keep doing the exercises it will with time (can already notice the difference).
You shouldn't get a period whilst breastfeeding, but lots of women still do. Particularly if baby starts sleeping for quite a while during the night. So you may not get one for months yet! Enjoy it while you can. I know what you mean though, I'm dreading my first one! Xxx

We dtd 3 weeks after and I had 2 stitches for a labial tear. It didn't hurt at all. Everything feels much tighter down there since having her. I thought it would be the other way round! I'm not sure re periods as I bottle fedx

We waited about 4 weeks, not sure why (I think possibly tiredness lol)

I didn't have any stitches or grazes and only bled for 10 days.

Sex has been fine since, actually it's been better for me!!!

xxxxxx

We waited until 6 weeks like the MW advised. I had 5 stitches and got my first period after about 8 weeks and also BF. Surprisingly things felt fairly normal, if not a little tight initially. But plenty of lubrication helped a lot and it was so nice to get that intimacy back. xx

I had 4 stitches for a labial tear, it healed quickly. We waited until bleeding had stopped, just over 2 weeks. It was great to be honest, nothing like the horror stories. Had to take it slightly easy for a couple more weeks or it was a bit tender but nothing major. The area of the tear felt a little odd for a couple of months, but not sore, just kind of numb and tingly. Things are a little different down there permanently I think, but OH doesn't care.

My obstetrician told me to get on & do it or run the risk of it becoming too tight! Not sure if this is a muscle thing? Anyway, I took her advice at 6 weeks & yes it hurt a bit to start with it's now fine x

Im freaking out about DTD!! I still have discomfort and some days still quite sore. Im 5weeks and 3days PP. It still looks red and tender and have what seems like a gap where i had stitches and it hasnt closed properly. Its not sore their. But im worried if i dtd and it tore. Im literally that anxious and upset and frustrated i dont want to have sex. I feel stupid and feel like im the only one. Xxx

I'm 13 weeks postpartum and had an episiotomy only dtd first time yesterday it hurt like hell and was mega uncomfortable had to change position but it worked eventually. . Its trial and error I knew it would be uncomfortable xx

Goodness, I waited ages lol!!! I had an episiotomy, and was really sore so I really wasn't interested!! OH didn't push, and I think at about 12-14 weeks I decided I should probably get back on the horse so to speak. I was a little uncomfortable, but no more than that. Oh and sex has definitely been better for me too.

Oh, maybe I was too early lol.. I tried it at 17days with stitches, it was a little sore but wasn't too bad xx

17 days?????? Lol holy crap.
I tried after 4wks. I didnt have any stitches and it was too sore so we had to stop. Tried again after 6wks and it was uncomfortable at first but was fine once we got into the swing of things lol x

The advice used to be 6 weeks post-partum, however these days we say to women to do it when they feel ready to do it at whatever point pp.
With only labial grazes ( they hurt I know, but for the purpose of the deed it's ok) you have a good chance not to feel much discomfort.

The vagina Pp may be dryer than usual so use some lubricant if that's the case.
Re periods it depends whether you are exclusively BF etc on average for exclusive BF it takes 6 months, but you can have it any time really... Not set rules. I went from one baby to the next without a single period... I felt pregnant when my 1st was 12 months and breastfeed him a good few months into my 2nd pregnancy xxxx

Just a quick update from me :-)
Dtd at 4 weeks and 3days pp- it was ok during, but afterwards felt a bit 'achey' for a couple of hours
My boyfriend said everything is 'normal' lol
My sister dtd at 1 week pp (as soon as she got out of hospital!) And said she was fine!
Xx

1 week,? wow your sister was brave. im bleeding pretty heavy atm. i hope it doesnt last! but down their is quite tender atm. so OH isnt going anywhere near. even though i feel extremely guilty as he hasnt had any sex for months if im honest. Xxx

We tried last night but I couldn't feel anything!! I'm only 10 days PP though (randy bugger that I am) and it really upset me that we stopped after 30 seconds. I'm hoping it will go back to semi normal :'(
