Having IUD (Coil) fitted after having a baby

Hi

Has anyone had an IUD fitted after having a baby?

I am due to have one fitted 18 weeks after a emergency c.section birth and wondered if it hurt loads? I had an IUD fitted before I had a baby and it hurt like hell but they said it should be less painful now that I have had a baby. Is this true?

I have had a few since 1st child and none hurt, but I didnt have a section.
i presume it would depend on if your cervix got chance to dialate

Its worth taking some pain killers (paracetamol/ibuprofin or both) half an hour before your appointment that should help you.

I had 2 days of labour and got to 6cm dilated.

A trainee Dr is putting it in otherwise I would have to wait ages

hopefully you have streched enough to make it easier, 6cm is alot

Good luck, its streight forward to do and students are usually more careful!

Yeah my Mum said that too, as they do it by the book and are more careful
