It's a long one ladies!
So I was booked in to get a sweep on the 19th of October, being 41 weeks exactly. Went and got that done but with no real effect, had my show the next day but apart from that nothing.
Sunday night I woke up a few times with cramps in my tummy, but never really though anything of it but when I got up on Monday morning around 9am I felt what I thought was water trickling out of me, so thought maybe my waters had gone! Kept getting more niggling pains in my tummy and had more show so gave the labour unit a phone who told me to monitor it and go up at 3pm to get checked. Untill then I had a wee bath and went for a walk which seemed to help a bit. Got up to the hosp and got checked but was told nothing was happening and got sent home again
I was then up all Monday night without a wink of sleep as I was having pains coming and going the whole time. I was due in hospital at 7am anyway to get the process of induction started so thought I may as well wait till then which I did. When I got in I was checked over and to my amazement the midwife told me I was 5cm dilated & some of my waters had gone!! Was told I wouldn't need to be induced and was being admitted right to the labour ward. They left me a few hours then was checked again, where I was given the disapointing news that the first midwife had been wrong and I was actually only 2-3cm & my waters were still intact! No idea how she got it so wrong!
This was around lunch time and was given till half 5 and if I hadn't made progress I was to just head home and come back in at 8am the next morning to get waters broken and put on drip. 5.30pm came & no progress so off home I went. Was still getting pains but tried to ignore them and ended up doing an asda shop on the way home!
Come 10pm on Tuesday night I was having regular pains and was doubled over unable to speak through them so rang back the hospital who heard me have one over the phone and told me to come right in. The hosp is about 20 mins away and the car journey was horrible!
Got there about 11pm and was checked and had progressed to 5/6cm! Woohoo! Was told I wouldn't go home till I had my baby!
Had another long night of contractions, took a few cocodomal but it never even touched the pain so at around 6am on the wednesday morning I started on the gas & air....wow that stuff is amazing!!!
It was about an hour or so after that they decided to break my waters as they still hadnt gone, and after that the contractions became unbearable!
Decided to get diamorphine, but they just gave me a third of a dose to start me off and to be totally honest I didn't really feel the effects of it.
Around 9.30am I was in the bath and it was then I really felt the urge to push so ended up back in bed puffing away at the gas & air. The midwife estimated it would take till around 2pm for baby to get here as I was only 7/8cm.....but low & behold my little man arrived at 12.30pm!!
Done skin on skin and he immediately done his first poop all over me
All in all I was at it for around 2 and a half days with no sleep, but can honestly say I would do it again today for me wee man! His first night home was great but the past few nights havn't been great at all, but we'll get there!
Oh, and he was 7lb 15oz & 54cm long.
