Most if you guys know all the problems I had with Harlow since she was born..

Colic, Reflux, Lactose Intolerance...

So since she was changed to soya at 8 weeks old, she has calmed down so much and became such a content happy baby! She started to drink a lot better and was so much more settled. The colic was still an issue but I could deal with that as it reduced her crying from 22 hours a day to 4 hours.

Soo.... For the past 8 days she has refused her bottles!! She drinks 1 oz and than all of a sudden throws an absolute hissy fit and refuses the rest of the bottle...not only was she dropping on her centile line before she started becoming fussy but obviously now she will have dropped even more as she is only taking between 1oz and 2oz every 4 hours! I tried changing tears to the next size up thinking it was through frustration, same thing happened, changed her bottles, same thing again! Changed down a size in teats, again the same thing happened!

I have been ringing for an appointment with our paediatrician for the past 2 weeks as she was supposed to be reviewed for her reflux but that hasn't happened!! HV is clueless and doesn't know what to do either.

What do I do!! I have just gone out to Boots and bought rusks, baby rice and normal cow and gate milk. I am at a loss and I am now willing to try anything to get her to eat! I don't even know if I want to even try her on theses I just bought them in a moment of panic!

Sorry to hear that, cant offer any advice but just wanted to send a hug xx

Is she crying through hunger? If not id leave her for now instead of risking aggregating her allergies.

Is she teething? Tyler stopped eating and skipped some feeds when he started and he's a lot more fussy now!

I hope your ok and OH is supporting you!

At first I thought she was teething but i can't feel anything on her gums, she isn't chewing her hands or chewing on things, she doesn't have flushed cheeks either.

Yeah she does seem to be crying of hunger but when we give her the bottle she goes for the milk like she is hungry but as soon as she has swallowed it she tantrums. I will get OH to record it on the next feed what she does and upload x

Tyler has nothing on his gums and no red cheeks and he's defo teething. He wears an amber anklet tho.

Has she had calpol and/or neurofen? Have you tried walking around with her facing out in your arms while you give her a bottle? It's a trick you can use on bf babies that don't take bottles. They get distracted looking around the room that they start swallowing subconsciously iykwim?

:( oh no, I'm so sorry she's having more probs. Charlie used to squirm about and throw himself back when his teeth first started hurting and I couldn't feel much, have you tried giving her cooler feeds? It doesn't aggrevate the gums as much...or maybe put gel on her gums half hour before feeds and see if it helps. If not then it could be the reflux, does she take gaviscon or anything for it? Xx

Yeah tried calpol, calgel, cold dummies.. Yup, tried walking around with her, even tried rocking her and giving her the bottle and she just doesn't want it x

1-2oz every 4 hours does not sound like a lot at all. Maybe skip the HV and go to your GP?

Never thought of that actually, will try a cooler feed and see if she will take it. Yeah for her reflux she has donperidone and Zantac... Although these just make her sick now so when we finally finally get this appointment for the hospital I think they may change her to different stuff for reflux.

Thanks for all your advice tho ladies , really appreciate it x

When Tyler won't feed sometimes I put him in is cot for half an hour (only is he's not crying) let him have a moan and try again half an hour later (scraping the barrel here now)

Try putting half of the doses of meds if they make her sick... Charlie even now he's got 2 teeth won't have warm milk he hates it so he has it like say 6oz cooled down to room temp 1 oz boiling water to make his 7oz feed. Or what I did, and its not ideal is lay Charlie down flat on his back or on his side as long as his heads to the side and feed him that way-even now I still sometimes do it, or prop him up on the couch cause he hates being held like a baby iykwim x

Thanks Pinky, just tried that and then gone back to her and then tried wgat you said Pretty, gave her a room temp/colder bottle and she drank a further 2oz on top of the 1oz she had an hour before. She seems quite content now and is smiling away.

Thanks all. Xxx

Alyssa has been screaming at her bottles recently, luckily i combi feed so she would take boob but i had to give her cooler bottles while rocking her or with her lying in a bf position for her to take the bottle and even then she would only take 3oz. i hope harlow starts eating better again. Alyssa seems to have got over the teething for now

The only thing I had to suggest was cooler bottles but see your trying that. Sometimes when they are not properly teething their gums hurt as the teeth are moving around. We found Grace liked room temp bottles when she had this

Aw chick, its one thing after another isn't it x

It defo sounds like Harlow is still reflux-y. The pulling away from feeds is common for reflux, what my LO used to do was scream for a bottle then drink a bit then scream pull away & scream for it back..it went on like that all feed every feed.

I can totally understand you buying the foods. After all they do say solids helps reflux, but I still think its a little bit too early, even if you managed to 4 months that would be slightly better.

The soya may have been helping so far but has stopped now, I found with everything I tried for Kayden's reflux it worked for a while then stopped. And if LO does have a lactose intollerance soya still has lactose. I know the docs are totally use-less, so I understand. I mentioned this on torinos thread but how about a private doc? You might get the prescription you need for non-dairy formula, also you can buy it online, well i've seen it advertised but haven't bought it (we get it on prescription anyway) I dont think my LO has a cows milk allergy but hes on formula for it, doc says its good for the stomach even if allergy or not.

xxxxx

Didn't want to read and run. Hope things get easier for you. Cant imagine what you must be going through. :hugs: x

Sma do a formula called stay down, for reflux I'm guessing...don't know how that'd go with lactose intolerant...my bil was on an oil based milk when he was younger. Also I tried cow n gate and the milk seemed a lot thicker to me and Charlie found it harder to digest. Sma also do a lacto free milk too, the docs thought C was lacto int but turns out they got it wrong so he was on that for a bit, m gaviscon etc then I went back to the docs and seen a different 1 and he wanted mw to juat try Sma normal and i was fed up as he'd literally been on every brand but he's absolutely fine now, he just doesn't really like milk anymore.

Hope she feels better soon but if she's not well she prob won't drink as much as normal, hopefully she will plan on sleeping it off x

How about trying sma lactose free? As my peaditrician said most lactose intolerance suffers are also allergic to soya. Tegan is. Hope harlow improves soon xxx

LM I totally know what you mean!! I found things worked and then all of a sudden stopped again!

So... What I have done, some may agree or disagree with this but here goes.

I have stopped everything... All medication, all gripe water, calpol, soya formula.

I have put her back on normal cow and gate formula and now going to take it from there. I will go back to the doctors and accept the testing they offered me for lactose intolerance and allergy. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this

Started with the new formula at her bedtime feed and she drank 4oz so already a result, then she woke at 5am and drank another 4oz, woke at 9am and drank a further 4oz. So already an improvement. Not holding much hope as like I said earlier, things tend to work then stop.

X
