So last night at around 7.30 I met a friend in a cafe for a catch up. I ordered a slice of carrot cake but only ate half of it.
Its the only thing I can think that could have caused the distress that followed.

I felt really ill before going to bed, but thought I'd go to sleep and feel better when I woke up. Wrong!
I woke up at 4am with severe cramps and my stomach was growling so loudly. I rolled around in pain for a few mins then decided to get up and sit on the loo to see if that helped and for 20 minutes straight, pure liquid came out of my back passage.
It was literally like someone was pouring a jug of water into the loo, and the cramps were still ongoing.

When I got off the loo, baby started going bananas, and I was so worried in case she was distressed. I was almost in tears and was gona wake hubby up, but decided there was no point.

I lay awake with cramps til 8am, managed to sleep for an hour before waking again at 9, and now I feel ok.

Has anyone had anything like this? Does it sound like the carrot cake was the culprit? Surely pure liquid coming from there for 20mins isn't good?
I don't want to call the doc because I feel ok now - but it was really scary last night x

No idea about the cake but you could just have a virus hun.

Make sure you drink lots of water to keep hydrated and take it easy.

I've been really suffering the last week or so, every time I eat I end up with horrible stomach cramps and go from constipation to the other end of the scale over and over again!

Plenty of fluid and dry food for today will be best.
Feel better soon x

Thanks girls. Will take it easy today x

Oh dear just read this. How horrible. Take it carrot cake is now on your 'do not eat' list now!!

Lots of fluids and rest today. If it happens again call your doctor. Take care xx

Hey hon, I had hideously bad diarrhea for over a week and it finally cleared up last week. At some points it was like as you'd described and I was often out of the house when it happened. The doctor just said that our bodies can react differently to food now that we're pregnant, or alternatively as someone said it could have been a stomach bug or bad bacteria. Either way, I just really take care of my hygiene now when it comes to food and bacteria. I carry antibac with me and use it before I eat, and if there's anything I get served when I'm eating out I will literally send it back if I think it's remotely dodgy. Carrot cake isn't something you would think of straight away, but then of course it could have been someone making it that was ill or something. Really hope you feel better soon :hugs: xx

Oh Hun!! Hope you feel better soon, as the ladies have said keep well hydrated and maybe try some dry toast?? x

Oh, that sounds horrible :/ Hope you're feeling better now, stay hydrated and look after bump :)

Poor you, really hope you manage to catch up on the lost sleep today and that its passed. Hopefully it was just a bug. I assume the carrot cake was cooked properly, although you never know what they might have used in the icing.

Either way not nice, rest up xx

I've had this a few times but it's usually after I've been constipated then managed to get it out - the runs follow a few hours or more later with bad cramps and I get a sick to my stomach feeling. I have noticed with some foods it just comes out lol. It's all the joys of pregnancy unfortunately!! Like the others said plenty of fluids and dry food - crackers/toast would be good x x

Hope you feel better soon! it's worse now were carrying our little flesh and blood. I guess it's how you feel whether you call docs. Maybe just speak to your midwife see what she recommends. She may just say the same as the ladies above! Rest and plenty of fluid!
x

Hope you are feeling better now and that it's all gone away. It could have been the icing, presuming it had icing? Usually for carrot cake it's a cream cheese icing, and if it was sitting around all day in that cafe it might have gone a bit off? Take care xxx

Glad you're feeling better now hon; first thing that came to mind was food poisoning because the one time I had it was how you described it but it could be a virus. Good thing is that you are feeling ok now.

I'm thinking baby became active because there was so much 'activity' going on in there for her - I'm sure it wouldn't have affected her but you really shouldn't be afraid to call your GP if you're concerned as you were violently ill.

xxx

How are you feeling now?!

It could have been the food, as one of the other ladies said it could be that we're more sensitive to foods now we are carrying!

I sometimes have horrendous tummy cramps, sometimes I'm constipated, sometimes I go and it's fine, sometimes it's softer than usual (had to put it politely ;)). I think it's just our bodies trying to get used to everything moving around in there!!

Hope you feel better now! xxx

Thanks so much everyone for all your replies.
I've taken it easy today, and I'm drinkin a lot of water.
I'm feelin ok, I'm very aware of my belly like it hasn't fully recovered but I'm feelin generally fine.

The carrot cake had white icing (my latest craving - think I might just let my body crave that one now and not give in to it again lol) but I can't think of anything else that would have made me so ill.

I had dry toast this morning, and just had a ham salad sandwich so I'm definitely coming round :)

Thanks again girls xx

Oh glad you are feeling better!

Nothing worse than feeling sick that end!

Jayjay, that sounds awful, could have been the cake didnt agree with you, or one of those 24hr viruses. Your tummy/ bowels are a bit more sensitive during pregnancy anyway. Just keep an eye on it, and if it happens again defo go to doc! Glad you are feeling better now!!! xx

Aw you poor thing, how awful! Glad you're feeling better :) x x
