So I have just had my growth scan at 28+1. Baby is measuring at the top of the scales already and is 3lbs! Does anyone have any experience with growth scans? Is this indicating that I'm going to have a big baby!?

I had my growth scan last week at 33+6 and they say baby is 4.9lbs. I have heard that growth scans are highly inaccurate and can be 25% out. When do you next see your midwife?

At my 28 week growth scan 1 baby was 3.3lb the other 2.13lb. Today both are 4lb however the sonographer did say they tend to measure them bigger for some reason and won't be completely accurate.

I wonder why they are so Inaccurate!?

Jill I have an appointment on Friday. She didn't measure me at my 25 week appointment

I've had a number of growth scans due to habing gestational diabetes. Sonographer told me they arent sure how accurate they are as they never get to find out how much the baby actually was when born. She said they can be out by up to 2 weeks each way.
I had the following scans and estimates:
27 wks - 2lb 6oz
31 wks - 3lb 13oz
34 wks - 5lb 10oz
36 wks - 7lb
38 wks - 7lb 10oz
I am being induced tomorrow at 39 wks! I really have idea what to expect baby will actually weigh, lol! X

I had growths scan throughout my last pregnancy with twins and they were spot on. I had a scan at 32 weeks where baby a was 3lb 9 and aby b was 3lb 5 and they were born less than a week later baby a was 3lb 10 and baby b was 3lb 6. But it can vary I think with each sonographer who takes the measurements xxx

Ah wow Carla. Good luck and congratulations for tomorrow!! How exciting.

Casey thank you for that. So they can be accurate

I just had mine today at 37 wks and he's estimated at 6lb 10. Sweep next week and induction on 23rd! Eeek! Xx

Also, p.s- at 37 weeks my sister was told hers was going to be a 10lb-er at 39 weeks....her baby was 7lb exactly at 39+3 when born! Xxx

I agree they're not always very accurate. I had 3 in my pregnancy and was told each time that it was a big baby. I can't remember the estimated weights for the first 2 but the last one at 35+3 I was told baby was 6lb 4 and 'not skinny'. Baby was born at exactly 38 weeks weighing 6lb 3 so I don't think mine was accurate as they're supposed to gain half a pound a week in the last few weeks xx

I would be totally interested to find out what weight wee one is too! You have had a steady increase really x

Yeah me too jill. Carla you'll have to let us know!

Browneyed did you get induced at 38?

At 41 weeks I was measurimg at 37 weeks. I was told Jackson would be tiny and he was 7lb3oz.

Theyr not super accurate.

xxxxx

Was told to expect a whopper at 9.5lb..... He was 7lb 10oz at 39+2

The consultant herself told me they were rubbish for predicting weight. The only useful thing they use them for is to make sure that there is a pattern of growth present and not that baby suddenly jumps up or down along the predicted growth lines, which may indicate a problem.... But as to where the baby actually sits on the lines is fairly irrelevant in the grand scheme.

Yeah when I had my one she said each sonographer does it differently... Didn't think that was possible but that's why each time can be different. I sometimes think we would be better not being able to get all the scans/info we get nowadays because it just makes us all worry so much more xx

I couldn't agree more Jill! My mum always says 'in my day we didn't even have a scan. We knew we were pregnant at about 3 months and got on with it!'
There's too much expectation and charts now! Every baby is different and every mummy is too
