grandparents - how often and how involved?

How often do your children see their grandparents and how involved in their lives are they?

Im struggling at the moment my mum n dad n step mum are moaning they don't see reu enough its TRUE, they hardly see him once a month or fortnight if lucky...then my in laws are here 24/7 they having him every Friday ask to come round in the week and ask to do things with him now n then making out I should let him go to them more ( that's a whole other story)

What's a healthy amount??

I think once a week is a healthy amount, or even once a fortnight. Poppy sees her nan & grandad (my in-laws) once or twice a week, but I'm hoping to get it down to only once a week because with Luke working full-time, i'd like the weekends to be just us three. My mum & dad only get to see her about once a month, because they live 90 miles away

We see my parents about once a week but we only see FIL maybe once a month which I'm fine with lol
We're not in contact with mil so she never sees them

Chloe goes to mum in laws Monday lunch time and I pick her up Tuesday night and I try to fit in a day over the weekend for my mum to see her to try to keep it fair. There is only so much you can do as you need time with your little un x

i would actually love to have grandparents nearer! my oh is italian, so his parents are in Italy. we last saw them in August, and we will see them again at Christmas. my parents are in Manchester and im in London, so they dont see LO that often. my Mum is coming down for 4 days next week, and will babysit so that me and OH can actually go out together for once, just to dinner! she has seen him 4 times since he was born!!!

i think its a personal choice and entirely up to you how often they should see your LO. if you feel its too much, tell them! if you dont want them to see him, then again, that is entirely your decision! if i had family closer i definately think i would want them to be involved in my lo. it upsets me now that he doesnt really know who they are iykwim and its difficult leaving him with them as basically they are like strangers to him!!

In laws they never see and my mum about one a fortnight sometime less sometime a bit more and my dad once every few months, it's all there own choices we have never stopped them I've just got a weird lot that aren't very interested lol

In laws (lees grandparents he was brought up with) about once a weekend my parents about 1-2 times a week. Lee's father, once a month maybe and Lee's mother once every few months. These are just visits, they dont have any of my kids and have never offered. Used to bother me especially when the other grand kids got to stay over or go out with them but I don't care now, f**k em!

We see my mum a couple of times a week + if im walking past hers i usually pop in for a Cuppa. my dad once a month sometimes more, OHS mum has seen her about 5 times since she was born & there is no contact with OHS father.

We see the in-laws at least one day at the weekend, sometimes both days. I fell out with my Mum & Step-dad just over 3 years ago and we didn't talk for almost 2 years. Our relationship is getting back on track slowly but will never be as close as it was before the bust up so we see them about once every 3 weeks for Jack's sake rather than ours. We get on but they'll always be a slight unease around them unfortunatly but I feel like Jack should know as many f his relatives as possible. Life's too short and all that! x

My mother in law sees Lucas quite a lot. I feel obliged to pop over for an hour on Tues, Wed and Thurs afternoon as I am usually not doing anything in an afternoon and she has that time off work and she only lives round the corner. We then usually go over to their house on both days at the weekend. Sometimes if I'm busy in the week at the weekend she will say how much she has missed him. I really wish we could reduce this. I like them but sometimes I just want a whole day just me, OH and Lucas. My mum lives 250 miles away so only sees Lucas about once a month or every 2 months. I don't really speak to my dad. xx

amelia tends to see my mum and dad every day due to them looking after her when im at work but would see them every day anyway as i spend a lot of time with them and she sees dh parents once a week x

LO, OH and I are living with my mum for the next 6 months or so while we save up for a home and our wedding so obvs see her everyday, but parents in law live an hours drive away and we go see them once a week. When we were living in our flat we were about 10 mins drive from parents in law and saw them still only once a week and we were an hour away from my mum and id visit her for an overnight stay every week and she would come to me for a day on the weekend.

Well Cesca and I live with my parents, so they see her everyday... But FOB's parents see her maybe once a fortnight? xx

My parents have not met Georgie and they have not seen Mitch since Jan - Lanny we could be related! Lol Closest thing I have to a Mum is actually my Mum's aunty, she bought me up till I was about 8 and had Mitch while I worked. I try and see her with LO once a week at least, Mitch see's her every school day as he goes there for his dinner - fab woman!

Oh's parents live 70 miles away in the North West so see them maybe once every fortnight/month depending on what's going on.

His parents would like to be more involved but mil is very opinionated (I have raised two kids, it never did mine any harm and all that) I think because Mitch is 11 they forget he was a baby once and that I raised him on my own! anyway they will not be having LO on their own anytime soon!

Everyones level of involvement will be different - whatever you are happy with is where yours should be! X
