I found DD was eating less food around 8 months but would still happily suck a tangerine to death I stopped giving tangerine or other fruit after every meal as although they are good for her I felt she was giving up on the rest of her food quickly so she could get the tangerine. Within a few days she had started eating more of her meals. I'd recommend not giving dessert as a routine if you are having the same experience as us. I assume it is natural yoghurt or fruit that you are meaning so there could easily be given as snacks at a different time or sometimes after meals as long as he doesn't have the certainty that after savoury food comes fruit and so ignores the savoury food.
I think babies will naturally prefer the sweeter foods over savoury. I only give Emms fromage frais and fruit as her sweeter things rather than food with sugar in. She does love the FF but I think you just have to give more savoury stuff and less quantity of the sweeter foods. Also babies do go through phases with food - Emms certainly has loved some things one month and then goes off it the next month! You just have to keep going with a variety of stuff.
