Hi ladies,

Wasn't sure where to post this exactly.

After baby is born how much smaller does your bump get in terms of straight after the birth? I was a size 8-10 pre pregnancy and didn't start wearing maternity clothes until about 5-6 months preggers, The trousers i have in my bag to go home in are a 14. They are not maternity, but do go up over my bump.

Do you think they will be ok to go home in or should i wear my maternity jeans which are a 10? I know its important to wear something comfy but i live in jeans anyway and have never found them uncomfy. I'm just worried that if bump gets drastically smaller i'll end up with my trousers round my ankles!

Id say you want the 14s especially. You will still look 6mths pregnant after birth so they wont be falling down!
Especially if you have an emergency c section for any reason.
I didn't realize how comfy I would want to be, I live in jeans but couldn't have worn them to come home in, infact still not back in them yet because I had section..You could always taken both

Using tapatalk so excuse the typos!

I'm going to be taking my over the bump leggings - currently still size S - but I imagine I'll go up to medium by then!

I love my over the bump leggings....

xxxxxxxx

How quickly your bump goes down really does vary from woman to woman but you will most likely need the 14's.
As Em91 says you will still look pregnant after giving birth and hospitals tend to discharge you pretty quickly these days if you have been problem free. Also, you may still be a little tender and sore so it's best to take baggy clothes to give you a bit of breathing space.

Thanks for your replies ladies. I'll stick with the ones i've packed.

I know i'm obviously not going to spring straight back to having a flat tummy, but really unsure as to just how much it would shrink after it's not full of baby anymore!!

defo the size 14's - remember you need space for the thick maternity sanitary towels too so close fitting seems around there are no good.........go for super comfort :)

i used joggers n leggings first few days in dark colours xxx

Remember are get size 14 pants too, the bigger the better! I lived in them and my linen trousers for 2 weeks then was back in my size 10s after 2 weeks xx

Loved my big Primark pants! Still wearing them now even though I'm pretty sure I could fit into my normal pants now!

Defo the bigger size. I wore a pair of baggy joggers. Lightweight jersey ones. Cheap from tesco.
I wouldn't advise wearing jeans or anything tight fitting.
You don't want anything rubbing there, or too tight.xxx

I saw a pic of me in our 'labour pictures' folder the other day and thought, that must be before Sophia was born, then noticed the crib next to me

When my parents came to visit the next day my Dad said, I thought you'd had it!!

But I was back in pre pregnancy jeans a week or so later, so

Thank you for this thread I've packed my labour bag and haven't packed anything to go home in lol! Will now go and get something light and baggy xxx

I'm still in my normal size pants but i did buy 2 packs of big pants for afterwards- well, if he ever decides to make an appearance that is!!

i would throw in some leggings too just incase as i was back in my normal size really quickly. xxx

My bump did disappear straight away, but in fairness I wasn't the thinnest person before I got pregnant!! Whatever you decide to take, I would suggest you pick a dark colour. I bled a lot more than I thought I would after birth and was constantly worried that even with my big knickers and maxi pads that I was leaking.

I wore trackies to go home in. I had an episiotomy so really didn't fancy wearing jeans.
I also don't think you'd be able to wear jeans if you end up having a section so I'd take some trackies or leggings instead if I were you.

The trousers i have packed are black cargo trousers.

In all fairness, we only live 5 mins away from the hospital so OH can always nip home if needs be.

Mind you, all this worrying about what to take and my lil one is a no show so far- 4 days over and counting!

I wore black jogging bottoms home, light, loose and comfortable, with giant pants from primark.
A week on, I'm still in either jogging bottoms or my maternity jeans even though my bump is almost completely gone.
I'm at that awkward stage where my maternity clothes are too big, and my regular clothes are too small :( x

I have found that my maternity trousers have never really fit properly- they slip down, so i have to wear one of oh's belts with them!!

Hope you and lil one are doing ok? She's such a lil cutie!!!

Yeah mine never quite fitted either, but I never had over the bump trousers, all under the bump, just wearing them with a belt now.
Me and LO are doing great thank u :) I'm still in shock that she's mine lol. Hope ur keeping well :) x
