Monday 12th August (My due date) 01:25 Water's went in bed

02:00 Dropped DD off at Mums

02:15 Arrived at hospital to get checked over - all good. Booked in for 8am Tuesday for possible induction if nothing happens by then.

03:00 Home, but can't sleep.

05:00 Realise the period style pains might be contractions. Start timing.

06:00 Put TENS machine on.

11:00 Phone hospital to ask advice as to when to come in, told to stay home for now and that I will 'know' when to come.

15:30 I beg to come in. Mainly I'm frustrated at the stop/start of it all and want to see what's happening.

16:00 Checked over by midwife, have an internal and I've not even started dilating. She says that technically I'm not in labour. WTF?! However, I accept this and finally relax, I'm reassured that I will know when things kick off.

18:00 Hubby orders pizza and we watch an episode of Dexter. I had 4 quite strong contractions during Dexter, so that must be one every 10 minutes.

19:00 So tired. Manage to drift off between contractions! But keep getting woken up.

20:00 Have an insane contraction that makes me scream and swear a lot!

At this point time becomes a blur. We weren't timing them, but surely it was every 2 minutes or so that I was having these painful contractions that had a lot of pressure in my bum. Was squeezing Hubby's hand to death, he asks if I'm ready to go back in, I'm thinking no, it's not been long enough - if I'm finally dilating then I need to stay at home longer to get to 5cm! After 30 minutes I'm saying things along the lines of "I can't cope anymore", "I want gas and air". I've ramped the TENs up but I can't even feel it during the contractions!

After about 30 minutes, we phone the hospital, I get a contraction while on the phone and she says "come in now".

Hubby gets the car ready and my shoes on and says "lets take this one step at a time" and I'm like "No, I need to run to the car now before another one comes!"

I scream in the street before getting in the car. Let me add that Mercedes A140 are the worst car to get into when in extreme labour!

I can't cope with road bumps, so we're forced to take the route that goes over the railway crossing. Someone is on my side right now as it was up (it was down both previous visits).

The car journey was horrendous. I daren't tell Hubby that was having the urge to push. Or rather not so much as urge but no choice but to push.

8:50pm Hubby abandoned the car outside the hospital with the keys in the ignition! Grabbed a wheel chair. I'm so glad it was out of hours and there weren't many people around cos my screams were quite frankly embarrassing, but I seriously could not help it, it hurt like nothing I've ever experienced before.

8:55pm We get to Triage and straight away they are rushing me to delivery. Hubby asks if he can leave me with them to sort the car out and they say to leave the car! When he says he left the keys in it, they shout at him to "RUN!"

I get gas and air straight away and just stand leaning on the bed while they take my clothes off! Having had a wonderful experience with Gas and Air last time during being stitched up I know how to use it and get some relief pretty quick. Everyone starts sounding a million miles away and I can sense my replies to their questions are somewhat delayed!

They are asking me to get on the bed, but I can't. But I sense the urgency in the midwife's voice and finally manage to get on the bed on my knees. I ask if I can have a water birth, they say no (they actually annoyed me cos they said I couldn't because I was under consultant care -but in my notes it says I could).

I get a contraction where I'm pushing and can feel skin splitting/burning and this causes me to panic a bit cos it hurt, they calm me down and few more breaths of gas and air and I'm properly spaced out and on the ceiling and able to ignore the pain and gently push.

9:05pm Out pops a baby!

Yeah with 5 minutes to spare I think. It's scary to think I could have had him in the car really. Everything was on our side...the train not coming, no traffic, had it been 5pm there's no way I would have made it to hospital!
