not too positive ones either- but we won't change our minds that is her name and that's final! lol...so everyone had better get used to it!

Etholle (pron Ettolie)

Mum - said 'what! never heard of that, how do you spell it, then oh - another name that we can't buy personalised things for!'

Brother - 'sounds like dettol to me!'

oh well - guess the name might grow on them - I seem to remember the same kind of responses when we announced my dd Mirren's name!:wall2:

They're right in that it's unusual but I don't see how that's a bad thing! it doesnt really matter what tey think anyway its yours and oh's choice. this is exactly why we didnt tell anyone our daughters name before she was born!

I REALLY like mirren btw, I might steal that if we ever have another girl, hope u don't mind!

It's a beautiful name - they'll come round

My mum and dad didn't like my boys name but I just overrode them - it was our chosen name and they had to live with it (they got over it quickly). What I didn't get, with them and anyone else, is why, when you tell someone what the name *is* they think it's ok to make insulting comments about it - errr I've told you this is my child's name and you think it's ok to say you hate it/it's common/weird, whatever. :eh:

I wouldn't discuss names with family for this exact reason - too many opinions. It's a lovely name. And it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

As a kid, I used to struggle to find personalised things with my name on them and I'll admit that it did annoy me at times, but online retail makes that so much easier to overcome nowadays - you can order stuff with whatever the flip you want written on them - tell your mum to get online

I want to keep all possible names to myself but my OH will ask EVERYONE their opinion on it. It's driving me mad, I've told him not to keep telling people as I don't want to announce it until the baby is born.

I think people can be very rude about names and I think a lot of children grow to suit their names and after a couple of months no one will be able to imagine her being called anything else!

I'm struggling with names I have to think of both as I'm team yellow the names I do like so far are

Girl
Mia
Skyler( sisters contribution)
Ava

Boy
Nothing really I did like Kaiden but it's such a common name now.

Couldn't have Skyler because I absolutely loathe the character in Breaking Bad - haha!

I only started telling people as we had discussed it with our son and daughter - and my son was telling everyone her name - as he is so proud of his bump sister already! :)

Aww... that's so sweet. Don't you worry that when she's born, she just won't suit the name? I only ask because my mum had a few names in mind for my brother but named him after my grandad when he was born as he looked just like him. He didn't suit the other names she'd considered. It might have been a trickier for my parents if they'd told us the names they had in mind and then had to get us used to a new one when he arrived?

I have a Skyler! Obviously love it lol

People can be so rude about names, it's like they think because the baby hasn't been born yet, they can make mean comments that they wouldn't make about a child. We've decided to keep our name a secret from everyone for this reason, the grandparents aren't to happy about being left in the dark but it's nice to have a secret for just me and hubby. Plus no one can moan x

we named our daughter at the 20 week scan - when we found out she was a she.....and we called her that and referred to her as that whenever we spoke to/about her. so when she was born it would have seemed odd to be calling her anything else:oooo:

Be prepared for ppl to read it as ethyl

or spell it as etolie x

I had this with my mum wen I told her we were calling our son jasper she hated it and kept taking the piss out of it but I didn't give in and stuck with it and now he's here she doesn't love it but she likes it and says it suits him and it will grow on her I'm sure haha he's my baby not hers so I can call him what I want :) xxx

yes! I am expecting this....I like the correct spelling, but may just spell it how it is pronounnced, just to avoid this - I already have this issue with my 4 year old dd:roll:
