Hi Ladies

Have any of you been out of work for a long period of time?

I'm desperate to get back to work, i have no confidence, and the thought of a interview terrifies me.

We don't plan on having any more children so i've started thinking about the future (work wise)

should i do some online courses that i could add to my C.V? as i have only had one proper job that i had before i had my daughter.

have any of you been in a similar situation, or have any advice for me?

xx

I've been out of work for an extended period of time and whilst I think courses always look good on cv's they can be unnecessary. You can use everyday life as examples of experiences. So if you handle the finances/banking/budgets you can use this on your cv, same to prove organisational skills, time management etc. :) xx depends on the job I guess xx

What type of work are you looking to get into xx

You could maybe look for a job that provides some sort of training. And make a career that way. Or you could look at doing some courses in a particular field to strengthen your applications....
And think of the level of commitment your going to have for studying? Working? Do you need a job to suit school hours? Or is it more of a long term career your looking for?
There's lots to think about, and lots of avenues you can do down.xxx

Thanks, I really need to sit down an think. I'm still tryin to decide if I should just jump straight into a job that I can build a career on, or do I just do a small part time job, to get me use to working again and untill the youngest is older! I have no idea! Either way I'm going to start searching the web! Soo many different things I could do, my brain is frazzled

That's kinda what I was trying to say. Haha... It all depends on what kind if support you have for the kids too?!?
I wish I had the guts to change my job, do something I was interested in. So it's the perfect opportunity for you :)

Kel I discovered this website last night www.workingmums.co.uk
I've not had chance to have a proper look yet. But it's specifically designed to help Mums back into work and has jobs suitable for school hours and even working from home jobs :)

Tapatalking :)

Thanks Rach, ill have a look, Sarah sent me a link too so I've got 2 to look at!

When I was relocating to NI I made sure I had my computer skills up to date. I did the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) and my word processing/text processing levels 2 and 3. It's worthwhile if you are hoping for office work x

No advice really but my neighbour went back to work late last year after 18 years out raising her children so it can be done. They built a new Asda near us and she started working there and they are doing on the job training ect. She says they are brilliant for people with families

Good luck although I'm sure you'll be fine once you decide what you fancy doing x

Theres some home care companies that fit round you x

Ive never been unemployed. But I know from an employers point of view that anything you can add to your CV is a bonus. If you can show that you haven't just done nothing it can help significantly. Can you do voluntary work while LO is at a playgroup. Could you do an open university online course. The options are endless, and yes, its hard work juggling these things around an LO but if you wanna get on in the work world its a necessity. Anything you can put on your CV is looking very good for you. Especially if you've done it off your own back.

Its immensely difficult to get back into employment after any sort of unemployment, and unfortunately employers dont take any sympathy if you were unemployed to have an LO. Get started NOW, before its too late.

Good luck
