Hi all, I thought I'd take this chance to write up my birth story for anybody who would like to read.

Term + 10 - booked for induction. Called up from 9am to confirm bed availability. Finally get told to come in around 4pm. Arrive at hospital, 2 others also due in for induction but as I made it first they assigned me a private room (woohoo!!) room lovely and spacious. Midwife comes in and explains induction process to me. We begin by being monitored on the machine for 30 minutes. At around 6.30pm we started the induction process and propess was inserted. Here it would stay for 24 hours unless anything happens. My bp and pulse was checked regularly as well as fhb and contractions but no internal examinations for 24 hours. About a few hours in I started to get lower abdomen pains. Lots of walking and bouncing to get things moving. OH sent home.

Woke up at around 5am crying my eyes out with more lower abdomen pain. Contraction machine was showing a few tightenings but nothing of any excitement. Continued like this for most of the day. Nada. No more contractions. Had a couple of baths to help me relax. Figured propess wasn't going to work for me so was looking forward to a 6 hour break and then the gel for round 2.
At around 3.30pm I started getting these intense tummy pains. I couldn't move I was crouched down on the floor. OH called the midwife by the buzzer. I had a second pain and as I stood up I felt a warm trickle go between my legs. "My waters have just broken" I said to my oh with a big smile on my face after nearly 24 hours of being in hospital. Midwife came at this point and asked me how long I had been having pains for and asked me why I didn't call her. We did I said but you told me they were lower abdomen pains. Silly midwife.
Anyway, she decided that she should take the propess out and examine me internally. She said I was 5cm dialated and she would call the labour ward to transfer me.
Labour ward had a bed so off I went. Was greeted by a lovely midwife called Sarah (I think!) who made me feel so welcomed and relaxed. Shame she was only working till 7pm
anyway, was monitored some more. I then had another lovely midwife who did my next internal. Bad news, I was only 2cm but could be stretched to 4cm. How could I go backwards?!? Original midwife got it a bit wrong!
At around 8pm I was finally 4cm. Midwife told me to expect 1/2 cm every hour. Here for the long haul then. Great. At around 11pm I started getting intense contractions. Pressure building in my bum. Started on the gas and air (I may have used this before this point i don't quite remember) and I had pethadine (amazing drug!!!!) from here it's a bit of a blur. I recall the midwife telling me baby will be here soon. Slowly seeing the clock ticking over to midnight I remember thinking it has to be today....

As mentioned, it's a bit of a blur from here. I remember the pethadine dying off a bit now and asking for more. They said no so it was a whole lot of gas and air from this point. I was on all 4s hanging onto the front of the bed pushing and pushing. It wasn't working for me. I told them I wanted to be on my back so that's what I did. More pushing and some horrific sounds were being made lol I didn't feel like I was pushing very well despite the midwife telling me I was doing fine. An hour into pushing another midwife came in to help. By this point I'm in stirrups and pushing with my chin in my chest. Big breath in and push push push push!!! An hour and a half of pushing and still no baby. I'm exhausted and ready to give up. The next thing I know a doctor comes in and she said the baby's heart rate was dropping and we need to get him out. OH got really emotional at this point and thought something was seriously wrong. Doctor starts explaining what she needs to do - make a cut and insert the foreceps.
First half of the foreceps were on and I felt the need to push, doctor told me I couldn't but it was so hard and really painful as they were being attached. Next big push and baby would be out. I cannot even begin to describe the pain but they told me to look down and I saw baby's head. One more push and baby George was born at 1.20am
Baby was taken away to be checked as I had pethadine. Oh didn't get to cut the cord but we were just thankful it was over.
I had the injection to deliver the placenta, a couple of puffs of gas and air later it was out. I didn't get to have skin on skin as I had to be tidied up and stitched. This part would take about 10 minutes (with 2 anaesthetics down there!!! I could still feel it after the first!)
Then I got to cuddle my baby and everything that I had just been through didn't matter anymore
It hurt like hell but I'd do it all over again for him.
Afterwards I was chatting to the midwife and asked how long I was actually in labour for.... She said I wasn't actually 4cms until 8pm so 5 hrs and 20 mins in established labour. She explained that his hand was up by his head so despite all the pushing he just wouldn't have come out on his own. Trouble maker
And that's the story of how baby George came into this world eventually at 40+12 weighing 7lbs 6ozs
