Geocaching...

 My brother has a toy dog he takes EVERYWHERE with him and he takes photos of him all the paces they've been- Italy, France etc...

how does a travel bug differ from that?

was thinking if it's just like a microchip I might get him one but I am a bit confused!

a travel bug is hidden in caches and when people find it they then take it somewhere esle in the same country or abroad hide it again then some-one else finds it and it keeps going on,
when you find a travel bug you have to log it on the site where and when it was found and include a photo if you like so the owner can track it wherever it goes :D
xx

how cool does this sound..may have to look into it properly

its great exercise and fun too

You can get trackables, travelbugs and coins of the bay!

You can even get a car sticker to make your car into a cache and people can log it when they see it!

Good luck everyone and watch out for muggles when you find the caches, need to be descrete so they dont get rumbled. I usually put things for kiddies in, wee toys, promotional freebies etc. You dont have to make a trade, if you've nothing to trade.

There are almost 700,000 cahches hidden now!

Nanos are the smallest...usually the size of a bolt head and usually just contain a log
Micros can be a film canister size
Standard caches can be anything from tiny tuppawares to dustbins!
Never take a trackable unless you can log and move it on!
There are even flashmob style events and hidden camera caches where you need to find the spot and get someone to take a pic via the web.

All in all a great way to get a bit of excercise and brilliant fun for kids!

I'm having probs signing up :?

Oh  I'd already joined yesterday so the "join" button disappears LOL

wow there's loads of stuff on ebay!

look at this though, that takes all the fun out of it. :talkhand:

EDIT... look at the pencil :rotfl: I hope whoever buys it remembers to sharpen it first :rotfl:

we have started doing this too - we've always liked going out for walks but this was we have a purpose and the searches take us to lovely areas we migth never have explored before.
a great way to get exercise and fresh air :)

I'm hooked   . Found 2 so far and another 2 we've looked for and couldn't find  . My mum even came with me today to look for one that is placed in the field opposite her house. I found one in a church yard today and must have looked peculiar as I was kneeling next to a tree digging around the undergrowth in the drizzle with Connie in the car seat next to me  .
