Just a quickie... is Smoked Makeral... a cooked fish?? Can we eat it? Or is it to be avoided like smoked salmon etc etc

Is salami , a cooked or 'smoked' meat?? i've just had a salami sandwich, and have got all paranoid!!

Some countries advise pregnant women not to eat cold meats or smoked fish because of the risk of listeria. In the UK, we don't advise women to avoid these products because the risk is very low. The risk of listeria is much higher with soft mould-ripened cheeses (such as Brie and Camembert) or pâté, which you shouldn't eat during pregnancy. However, if you are concerned, you might also choose to avoid cold meats and smoked fish while you are pregnant.

I have, at a pub. I figured that as its probably been in a deep fat fryer any nasties would be well and truly dead!

I've also had smoked salmon, as long as you trust the supplier and its within date then I don't think its a problem.

Sharne, ... what is normal makerel?? I am learning myself onto better foods.. and am new to some fish..
Do u just mean the fresh makerel that I can get from the fishmongers?? And herrings etc??

I wouldn't worry asbout these foods unless your doctor tells you not too. I have been eating smoked salmon etc and if anything, is a reason to why i am pretty healthy with bubs.

I'd just avoid nuts etc
