First Fertility Appointment

Hi Guys,

Hoping to gain some advise and make some friends along the way.... after nearly a year of trying, I have pushed for a referral to the fertility clinic & we have our first appt next Thursday. My husband has a sperm analysis the week after.

I'm scared, excited and want a baby so much. My cycles have been all over the place & I had a period just before xmas which came 3 days after ovulation, it was really heavy & not normal, plus the same again in Jan convinced i conceived & miscarried more or less straight away. Feb was normal, which makes me think I conceived even more at those times.

Anyway, what can we expect on the first appt, I'm desp to get my stupid body sorted xx

The first appt is usually just questions/form filling and discussing what the next steps are. I imagine they will want to do tests to find the cause. If I hadn't already had my tests etc done they were going to examine me on the day so be prepared for that too.

I don't think you would conceive and miscarry straight away causing a period as that would usually be a chemical where the egg is fertilised and shows up on a test but doesn't implant. I don't think it would even be implanted that soon after ovulation but I may be wrong. What do you do/use to detect ovulation?

Hi, thank you for your reply, I have been using Clear Blue Ov Testing & Boots Ov sticks. They both have shown I'm ovulating.

Will just wait & see what happens next. Can't wait for next week

That doesn't necessarily mean you are ovulating but no doubt they will want to do those tests anyway. I guess you haven't had any tests done yet? I had already covered all bases with tests before we were referred so our appointment was probably different to the norm.
