Despite the midwife telling me I was healing well (had a 2nd degree tear and ventous delivery) and discharging me at the start of the week I have still been in quite a bit of pain which is getting worse and things have just not felt quite right. Managed to get an emergency appointment at the doctors this morning (felt like I had to give the receptionist my life story just to get an appointment!) and it tuns out my stitches are infected. I'm really sore and just generally feel like crap! Really glad I trusted my instinct that something wasn't right and made the appointment as I really wasn't sure if I was making a fuss or not after the midwife telling me that everything was healing nicely. I have started a course of antibiotics, has anyone else had infected stitches and know how long the antibiotics will take to start working?

I did too hun and they were usess too, they forgot to phone with the results so i was in agony and unable to walk before I rang for the second time for my results, Finally got my antibiotics and felt a bit better within a couple of days. Also didn't realise that drying yourself with a hair dryer is supposed to speed up the healing process so definitely try that!! Hope you are feeling better soon Hun, I know how horrid it is!! Xxx

Sorry to hear you're feeling rough. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and you feel better xx

Just as well u trusted ur instincts!! Sorry to hear ur having a bad time, hope it all heals for u soon xx

Tapatalking from my blackberry!

Ok I had a huge infection after and here's everything I did.
Soaked My area in healing salt baths morning and night nice and warm.
Dried my area with a hair dryer but not directly on the area
Every time I went toilet I used a cheap sanitary towel as u are not meant to use tissue and are only meant to dab urself.
Sat with towel under me and no knickers on to let air get to it.
RESTED
I ended up on two forms of antibiotics for mine and was I'll for two weeks but once I got the antibiotics they kicked in nice and quickly along with doing everything else lol
Hope u feel better soon xxxx

i had a 2nd degree tear as well and i found that 10 drops of lavender oil in a small glass of milk poured in a warm bath worked really well, lavender is good for infections too.

xxx
