Oh Donna - that's awful!!! I am slowing down like crazy over here at 36+3, and I can not imagine if I were working full-time and had extra duties etc. It really is incredible how much you have to cut back the last month of pregnancy - this is my fourth rodeo and I am still kind of blown away by it. It is enlightening how your work is treating you, and if they can't understand now, then they definitely won't understand when you need to take time off cause your baby is sick or needs you for some reason... I am so sorry for the stress!
And I don't think you're being unreasonable, wanting baby here. If I only had my oldest (she's 7 going on 18), I would be counting down the seconds. Depending on baby's temperament, newborns really aren't the part that's challenging. They take a lot of time, but especially when they're tiny they mostly just sleep on your or in the carseat or stroller! My only seriously challenging newborn was my son, who was colicky and had awful reflux. I felt like I couldn't go ANYWHERE when he was tiny, it was soooo stressful. But with my daughters, it was no big deal. Especially with my first, she was just so mellow and even though she was (still is!) a terrible sleeper, she was so mellow and quiet and my husband and I went out to restaurants and events with her in the carrier all the time. It was just... easy. So yeah, my biggest concerns are meeting the needs of my 2- and 4-year-olds while caring for the newborn, too. I'll be using my oldest's help a LOT. She can totally hold/carry a baby, she's incredibly responsible.
I am just exhausted. I have totally hit that point. I had a million uncomfortable, even painful, contractions last night when I "overdid" it. And by "overdid" it, I mean just did all the basic mom tasks I do every day! It's so frustrating and upsetting to feel like I simply can't do the basic things I have to do to keep the house running (like, um, CLEAN, pick up stuff off the floor, the basics). I think I'll feel better about baby coming when the house feels ready. I still have to get the baby clothes out of the garage and wash/sort them, put up the shelves we got at IKEA and put the clothes, diapers, etc into baskets on them... set up the top of our dresser with a changing pad... maybe when our house feels ready then I will, too.
