Morning ladies, I was just wondering how long it took you guys to express milk.
I just got just over an ounce in approx 10-15 minutes and feel like that's a bit slow. Just want to see what everyone else is getting?

Im not expressing or BFding at the moment, but I could easy get a full bottle (around 8ozs) in 30mins or so. I used an electric double pump to express until LO was fully established on the breast. I found that once my body was used to him BFding, it got harder to express and took much longer to get the flow going.
I got very little trying a manual single pump. xxx

It used to usually take me about 15 minutes to get 2oz, on the odd occasion when I was engorged I could get 5 or 6oz in that time but I think everyone is different hun, kellysmom have lots of information about pumping ect. It may well be that you have a baby who takes little and often so 1oz in 15 minutes sounds just find to me!

Out of interest do you have a manual or electric pump? Do you have the correct size nipple attachment? Are you pumping whilst feeding?

Thanks ladies :)

SarahLouise I have an electric Medela pump. I'm just using the standard nipple attachment that was included, not sure how to know if it's the correct size or not. This morning I partly pumped while feeding but wasn't really in the right position for it was finding it a bit tricky to hold Max and the pump in place. However... I tried again this afternoon and I got 3 ounces in about 10 mins :)

I found it just got quicker with time hon. I usually get 6-8oz in 30 mins now whereas before I was glad at getting an oz on 10-15 mins. There's defo a lot of variables tho cos I can still be a hit or a miss once in a while and only get say 3 in a sitting. Massaging boobs toward nipple before you go on to pump or doing it straight (and I mean literally straight) out the shower helps get more quicker x x

Will try the shower thing too Jen thanks :)

When you express do you put into the fridge and add to the same bottle each time you express or do you just leave the bottle at room temperature (if the bottle is to be used the same day)?

I always get more first thing in the morning. After feeding I can get 150ml in about 5 mins off the one boob, later in the day it takes longer x

Sorry just seen this, I tend to get a full feed into a bottle but if I get more I add to a bottle I'm gonna use next. They say it's totally fine to do. It's fine at room temp for 6 hours straight after expressing so you can add in the timeframe to that also x x

Sorry to jump on this thread with my own question. But do you have to put expressed milk straight in the fridge if your going to save it or can it be at room temperature for a few hrs before?

I know you can leave at room temp for a few hours but not sure if you can then put it in the fridge after those hours have passed?

I get anything from 50ml to 120ml in about 15 minutes (double pump) depending on the time of day and how long it's been since my last session. I certainly get loads more at about 4am in the morning than I do at any other time.

I normally put mine straight in the fridge and top the bottle up until it makes a full feed, any left over goes into the next bottle. So now if you go to my fridge I have 3 full feeds for LO. I then use the oldest one first.

I had this problem and asked hv, she said it was fine to go into fridge within a few hours as your not changing temp again, ie you couldn't re-refrigerate after being out iykwim x x
