Just being nosey!

I have read that epidurals can lead to increased risk of assisted delivery and I want to know how true that is for the ladies of PF.

If you opted for an EPI, did you end up having an assisted delivery?

xxxxx

I've had 4 epi's and only one forceps delivery but that wasn't anything to do with the epi, that was because twin 2 was distressed and they needed to get twin 1 out ASAP.
I've never had a problem pushing with an epi and wonder if ladies who have assisted may have needed one epi or not?? x

I had an Epi, it was loooong labour and I just couldn't cope with the pain any more. I was against pethidine/diamorphine as I heard that they can effect the baby so I ruled them out. The Epi was great and allowed me to get some much needed rest before the pushing started. I was able to push without the need for assistance.

I had an epi and forceps delivery, but Chloe went back to
Back and was stuck in a weird position . She had to be turned with the forceps. However, I was also shattered and falling asleep between contractions so not convinced u could have pushed her out completely anyway!

I personally didn't have an epidural either time but my sister did and she ended up having forceps used with my niece. She was in labour for a very long time though.

I didn't have an epi but ended up with ventous delivery due to baby being in distress.

My sister and both my SIL's all had epidurals with their first and all had assisted delivery.

They all had natural second births, with no intervention.

This made me curious as to the effects of having an epidural on a woman's ability to have a natural delivery...

Of course a baby can end up in distress without an EPI and many women end up needing assistance regardless of their pain relief options...

i had an epi and had nth to do with the forceps. actually sod that it has sth to do...it failed after they stopped to see if i feel like pushing and when they started again it didnt work so they left me with no pain relief in 10 cm dilated contractions with no brake between them for 5 hours. when the time came to actually push, when the litle madame rotated i was dead tired and i just couldnt push the head out...if the epidural had worked all the time i would be ok emotonally and physically and very possible i could do it without forceps. they say that it may hinder dilation. well under eli i dilated from 2 cm to 10 in less than 4 h so yeah...

I had epi and vbac (vacuum) delivery, don't think that was anything to do with the epi tho. I was pushing for over an hour and was so tired, they brought the doc in to assist as I hadn't the energy to do it myself. X

Epi and forceps. I just couldn't push MJ out, he was huge though!!!

I had an epi and didn't need intervention!
Xxx

Oh and I didn't tear in labour either but I did get a 2nd degree tear from were the doctor had to put two hands up my bits to stop my pph.
Xxx

I ended up with a ventouse delivery and had to have an epi for this incase it led to an emergency c sec. The little lady had gone back to back and I had been trying to push her out for 2 hours and in the end I just had to no puff left. I was thankful of the epi though as all the pain stopped and I managed to get some more energy from somewhere to push her out in theatre.
Not so sure I would have one next time though, I think I'd want to try without intervention again x

Yes I had an epi and an assisted delivery. As much as it killed and I couldn't stand the pain, I wish I could have done it naturally. Xx

I had a verrrrrry long labour, ended with an epi and forceps. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think I was just too exhausted to push very well! xxx

The thought of having an epi scares the shit out of me!! Not being able to feel my legs!!!

I had an epidural and an assisted delivery. Though I think the assisted delivery was going to happen regardless tbh. Plus the epidural didnt work and i was still feeling pain from the contractions. T bag was back to back and took an AGE to get to the pushing stage (including drip to speed up contractions) I was in active, 4cm plus labour for a day!

They let me try to push for an hour but the kid just wasn't coming. I moved her down a bit more but she wasn't coming out without help and I kinda knew that I think. I had to have what they called 'mid cavity rotational forceps' to turn the poor lamb around and that even took the doctor an hour to do in theatre.

I was induced so ended up with an epi, then had ventouse but it was because the heart rate was variable. I wonder if there are more interventions because you are a) on your back, and b) monitored more closely so they know immediately if LO is struggling. In my case as hr was up and down if I'd been mobile and less closely monitored it wouldn't have been seen!

I had an epi and delivered with no help. They were going to cut me but as the doc was stood at the end of the bed with the needle I thought I don't think so and pushed her out. Thank goodness xx
