Has anyone had one?

Many of you might know i've been a bit ill recently with GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) & after my 6th trip to the Doctors due to another set of medication not really helping I have got to have one & am pooing my pants about it lol
If anyone has had one could they tell me what its really like, does it hurt, make you sick?

Thank you in advance

Mica

hey hun. was speaking to my dad about this (about mine though :) ) and he said you recover quicker if you are not knocked out............ but he would advise to be knocked out :)

im guessing you would be sore after.

anything that makes u better has to be worth it!!!!!!!

I have had one of these GET KNOCKED OUT HUN and yea its abit sore afterwards but not much

Hope ur feeling better soon hun

Sorry I cant help hun, just wanted to say hope it goes ok and you get well soon..

The actual incisions shouldn't hurt very much, but you can get a lot of windy type pain for a while afterwards as they fill you up with Carbon dioxide!

Hi huni, I had a colonoscopy to diagnose my IBD (similar to IBS) I was given a sedative, which knocked me out completely, i did sort of come round near the end and can remember moaning a little, as it was uncomfortable but this was in a dream-like state. It didn't take long and i was allowed home soon after. The worst thing about it was the preparations before hand, i had to drink these horrible sachets of stuff, which made everything clear out  lovely!!

I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you ladies, Do they give you the choice to be knocked out then?

Clairesarah - The stuff to clear you it doesnt make you sick does it? I have a huge phobia of this

No it didn't make me sick at all, although it was a little tough to drink as it tasted nasty!! I was told only to drink clear liquids and not eat anything but clear jelly! Couldn't stray far from the bathroom though

I had an endoscopy when I had my gall bladder problem some years back. They spray your throat to numb it and then give you a sedative...I asked for the other way round because I panic if I feel I can't swallow. So they gave me my sedative, the quickly followed with the spray before I became woozy (only takes seconds).
I have a phobia of hospitals and medical procedures, so I really do understand where you are coming from...but it wasn't painful and I don't really remember much about it at all.
You will be ok, I promise.

I had it done a few years back and i chose not to be sedated. I DO NOT recommed this at all. It was awful and i will definatly be getting sedated if i have it again.

i worked in endoscopy for a few weeks whilst training. you should have the option to be sedated with midazolam it sedates you and makes you forget! its a personal choice if you have it or not i personally wouldnt as i like to be aware or whats going on and it control but my sister had it and she thought it was brill. they spray your throat with lidnocaine (helps to numb it) then pass the tube, it is uncomfortable but once theyre past the throat it gets easier. arent you scared of being sick? if yes then i would probably have the sedation as you often gag when they go past your gag reflex, itll help you relax. the procedure is uncomfrtable but as long as your prepared for that and dont get too uptight then itll be fine. they people that had difficulty were the ones that came in completely terrified they usually have to abandon as they wont relax.
youll be fine.

Dont know what it is but it sounds serious so i hope you make a full recovery very soon sweetheart i wil be thinkin g bout you

my grandad has just had this last week just spoke to him and he sed he was awake and it was horrid he sed deffo be sedated he got the choice to

Thank you for all your help, so am def gonna go with the sedation! I havent got my appointment through yet so have time to build up my nerves before hand, more worried about being sick than anything else
