Hi, I'm Livi.
I'm new to this site. me and my fiance have been trying to conceive for 9 months. My GP says I have endometreosis. My reflexologist and chinese herbalist have confirmed this by detecting blockages in my tubes!!!! :(
My specialist decided not to do anything about it (ie laparoscopy to sap the stuff out of me!!!) he just put me on "clomid" to make me ovulate every month, which as I'm nearly 30, I may not be doing apparently. Have been on this for 3 months and still nothing!
Is there anyone out there that can give me any inspiration or advice??????

Hi :D

Welcome to the forum & lots of luck to you TTC.

I take it the laparoscopy & a clean/look at your tubes is an option in general but he/she has said no?

If it can be a general option then I would insist that is what happens.

I haven't been in the same situation so can only have an opinion from what you have said.

My GP said it was an option, but the specialist was not even going to consider it, as he thought it would be better to get me ovulating (which may have been doing anyway???) If I haven't had anyjoy by June think I'll go back to my GP.

Drives me mad they let you know what’s going on & possibilities to resolve it & then tell you it’s not yet an option when your sat back wandering if that option would do all the doings that need done.

Your probably right to give it a little time then go back & tell them you want to be checked out.

Your not too old either my Dads 40 this year & he has me (25) & my sister who’s 3 in August, that was a nice boost to your hopes he/she gave you.

Hi,
Thanks for the encouragement! Need to just keep positive at the moment!

Don't think I was that much of use to you  Just our recent ups n downs made me open my eyes a little.

If you ever fancy a chat / slam of the keyboard feel free to add me to MSN.

Hi there,

Don't want to be negative but I would tell your GP you want the laparoscopy.. the clomid will do nothing to help the endometriosis - have you been charting [temps, CM etc] to detect ovulation by yourself? The clomid may help ovulation but if the endometriosis is quite bad it will stop you concieving even if you are ovulationg!! That GP sounds as if he / she is fobbing you off.. ask to be referred to a gynae specialist who actually knows about endometriosis and how bad it can be for fertility!

I have a friend who suffers from endometriosis.. she now cannot have children because she did nothing about it.. would not have surgery etc.. my advice would be ... don't wait unnecessarily if they can actually nip it in the bud now!!

Sorry if its not what you want to read but endometriosis is a major problem.. so many women have it and do not know until it is too late.. like when they are trying to become mums.. and in most cases it can be sorted out quickly and pregnancy can be achieved..

Don't mean to rant but my friend is devastated and has learned so much about her condition - just didn't have the balls to have surgery to remove it.. now she regrets that very much. She was also fobbed off by her GP for a year before she ended up going private to get something done.

Good luck and take care xx

Hi,
It's the bloody so called specialist that was fobbing me off with clomid. My GP was lovely and was the one who mentioned the surgery! Think I'll go back to her. As you say, if I'm blocked up, then ovulation or not, the poor old sperm won't have a hope in hell of finding my little egg!!!!
I have a very regular cycle of exactly 28 days and can tell when I'm ovulating and having sex every day (almost!). maybe I'll ask for a different specialist next time?
:x

I'm glad someone (Anna Marie) was in the know for you!

Defo one to chase up now, don't let them beep you about.

Will turn MSN on shortly just making lazy twonk some breakfast in the afternoon

Definately chase it up. You could even request seeing a specialist at a different hospital, if there is another one nearby.

I am a fellow endometriosis sufferer, and I have to say, a lot of what you have been told is baffling. For a start, you cannot actually diagnose endometriosis WITHOUT having a laparoscopy, so it's bizarre that your GP has said you are a sufferer, it may not even be endometriosis that is causing your problems. If you can, get them to give you a hysterosalpingogram too. Thay may go for this, it's cheaper for them. It won't do anything to treat the endometriosis, but if there's a blockage in your tubes it will clear it.

I was booked in for a second laparoscopy and laser treatment to burn off my endometriosis. While I was waiting for my lap, I had a hysterosalpingogram. Bingo!! Within a month I was pregnant. Although endometriosis CAN cause infertility, that only happens if the endo is affecting your ovaries. If it is affecting other parts, your fertility may not be affected by it at all, and it may just be a blockage in your tubes.

If they DO offer you a laparoscopy, request that if they find anything they burn it off there and then with lasers. I didn't even know this was an option at my first lap, so all they did was diagnose my endo, then they had to book me in for a SECOND lap to treat it!! Madness.

Best of luck. Keep us informed!

Thankyou heaps for the advice!!!
Will try to book an appointment with GP. She didn't confirm the endo, but thought that the specialist would do this with the lap! No other hospitals around here I'm afraid, so I'll just be more assertive and ask for a different person, and the test you said about!
Thanks again!

Hiya,
I have bad endo and the gyn said my tubes were so blocked that even after a lap the chances of my conceiving naturally were non existant and sent me for ivf. 1 week before I started my injections I found out I was pg. Jess is 22 months, and Im pg again and it happened really quick.

I always heard of these stories but never thought it would happen to me but hey, here I am.

I have always thought that I ovulated a few days before I should have been, its the only explanation I can come up with.

Good luck

Cheers for that!
They say that once you become pregnant the endo goes away for good???!!!!!! Hope so!
Thanx for giving me some hope!

:)

Really sorry to have to tell you this, but that's a myth. They say that pregnancy is the best treatment for endo, and it will certainly stop it getting any worse during that time, but ultimately there is NO cure. The only way to get rid of it completely is to have a hysterectomy. :(

Hi Liviray

I'd definitely second what Anna Marie said. They shouldn't really put you on Clomid without checking your tubes are ok first. They only really let you take Clomid for 6 months before they try something else and it's just a waste of time if you have Endo.

How are you coping on the Clomid? I've heard quite a few horror stories about it making you an emotional psycho lunatic.

A mate of mine had Endo and she had her laparoscopy and they used the laser to remove it. Within 4 months she was PG. :D

I don't know whether I am allowed to mention another forum, but you may find http://www.infertilitynetworkuk.com/INUKForum/index.php helpful. There's loads of people on there with fertility problems and taking Clomid like you. I find them really great for advice on specialists and docs (down that path myself).

Hi!
Am sooooo going back to my GP after easter!!!! :x
The clomid seems to have had no adverse affect at all! Maybe a bit more sensitive and the odd small bit of spotting, but other than that, cool!!! :)

Will let you all know how my drs appointment goes!
