Now I am feeling a bit more myself, here is my birth story!

On Monday (31/3) in the afternoon, I went to a breastfeeding class with the midwives (38 weeks pregnant). Half way through I thought I had wet myself and was really embarrassed and sat through the last half of the session, trying to concentrate and it occurred to me that maybe my waters had broken! I asked the midwife after the session and she said she thought i ought to get checked out at the hospital.

My hubby came home from work early and we went off and they confirmed in the maternity assessment unit that my waters had gone and if i didnt go into labour, i would need to come back Wed morning to be induced. Anyway, I started contractions in the evening and used my TENS machine which helped and then we went into the hospital again.

The water pool was free so I went in and it was nice for the first couple of hours combined with gas and air, but then the pain got so bad that I asked for an epidural!!!

I had a 'spinal' which helped a lot as I was in so much pain I was beside myself which worked well for a while and then an epidural but the epidural didnt work properly, so then felt worse again and just had the gas and air to help. It seemed to take ages after that to give birth to Emma and I had to be cut, so it felt really traumatic and the whole labour took 8 hours in all. To be honest it's all a bit of a blur and my OH has filled me in on the details!

By the time Emma was born it was 7am, and then I had to wait for ages to be stitched up. I had a catheter in and felt like I was aching everywhere! By the time I was allowed to get up and walk, I went for a shower with my OH helping me but fainted in a pool of blood as a blood clot went. I had to stay on the labour ward for a while after that while they monitored me before transferring me to the nicer post-natal ward where I stayed overnight and was really pleased as Emma took to breast-feeding well and then I was discharged on Wed afternoon. I nearly had to have a blood tranfusion, but managed to get away with just iron tablets in the end.

Anyway, so happy to be a mummy, cant quite believe it! Emma arrived 12 days early and is gorgeous!! Lorraine and Darren x
