i'm hoping for a home birth- but i'm really worried that i might need an emergency section- the hosp. i'm booked in at in case i cant have the homebirth is not that nearby and what if i need to get rushed there during rush hour or something?

any mummys who've had them- what point was it decided u needed one and what happened? do u think if my MW thinks i'm not gonna be able to do it naturally she'd kno quite early on? i'm just scared that if i do there wont be enough time to get to hosp. but i dont wanna give up on my home birth plan!

Yes thats the idea. They are specially trained to recognise when things are not 'normal'.

Obviously distance from hospital is one of the problems associated with home-births, and also one of the things that attracts some women towards them in the first place!

I think current statistics show that it is just as safe to have a first baby at home as in hospital.

i had an emergency c section and from the decision being made to her being born it was a total of 45 mins

They decided I needed a section and 10 mins later I was in the Operating room and logan was born 10 mintues after that so 20 mins in total! The longest part was stitching me up after!

I was thinking on a home birth untill my hernia came along and everyone thought I should go into hospital which is 30 mins away. There is a midwife led Unit where i live and have been told by them I really dont need to go into hospital. My worries about being rushed in for an emergency where the same untill I spoke to the midwives there as with my first they were so close to taking me in for a c section. They have guidlines that they follow and if the slightest thing starts to go wrong my midwife will transport and accompany me to hospital straight away. I will be going into the unit and not a home birth as I can at least try a water birth ( all being well I get there in time) fingers crossed. But at least I know I am in safe hands.

cos youll be at home you are really thoroughly monitored and theyll pick up on any potential problems quickly.
an emergency c section just means an unplanned one, its a crash section that is where they need to get baby out immediately and this is uncommon.

when i was in labour with nathan there was a query over his heartbeat(it was fine) so the midwife listened in constantly for about 10 mins then kept checking and checking until she was happy. i was slow going dilating from 4-6 in 6 hours so they broke my waters and there was meconium (probably cos he was overdue) so i transferred in. it was all really relaxed we didnt leave til about 30-60 mins after we drove ourselves it was all really calm.

If you and LO are healthy and happy trixipaws, there's no reason it would get to a c-section, but yes your MW will know if anything arises that may need hospital attention, so hope that helps ease your mind, just talk to her about your concerns

i was supposed to have a home birth, but 24 hours after my waters officially went i hadnt progressed so i was taken to hosp in my MW's car... then after 8 hours i developed infection and was taken to theatre within 20 mins of bein told i was havin a section ellouise was born...

homebirth MW's have specialist training in order to recognise problems before they're there...

dont worry ur MW wudnt let u have a HB if there was a risk..
