so relieved to be writing this finally!!! I'd spent the past week thinking my waters had gone, getting pretty much constant period pains, backache and strong braxton hicks. By 6pm on Sunday evening (38+5 wks) the tightenings had settled into a pattern coming every 10 minutes and lasting about 40 seconds. Tried not to get my hopes up as this had happened a couple of times over the past few days only to disappear again :wall2:. We put our two boys to bed and I told my hubby that I was getting in the bath and that if things carried on afterwards I would call my dad and ask him to come over (he's about an hour away). Suddenly got a really bad urge to go to the toilet for a number 2 (tmi) and when I wiped noticed that my plug had started to come away. This is exactly how things had started with my second baby and I had a very short labour so called my dad and the hospital and jumped in the shower whilst my hubby put our bags in the car.

Arrived at the hospital around 9ish pm and the m/w made me feel like a child!! I was really uncomfortable and was convinced this was it but after examining me said there was absolutely no way I was in labour, my tightenings were probably fleeting braxton hicks lasting 15 seconds (they definately were longer than that) and I was to go home and keep to my community m/w appt. on Thursday . As soon as we got to the car I was in floods of tears as I knew that the baby was on its way and she had made me feel like a complete idiot.

Got home and sent my hubby and parents to bed while I stayed downstairs, pacing the lounge and timing the contractions - still lasting a good 40-50 seconds and now every 6 minutes. Finally went up to bed at around 1am and as soon as I lay down the contractions got really painful. After spening half an hour tossing and turning, breathing through them I started to get the shakes really badly. Woke my hubby up and asked him to call the hospital back because there was no way I was staying at home to deliver in the living room! He spoke to the same m/w who had sent us home who was obviously unconvinced and said we could go in if I insisted but she wasnt guaranteeing that I was any further on than before.

Arrived back on Delivery around 3am. Greeted by the same m/w with a sigh and a "come on, lets see whats happening then". By this point I was doubting myself and kept appologising for wasting her time however when she examined me and I was 6cms!! I had a contraction whilst she was examing me and my waters went with a huge gush. Started on the gas and air and an hour later, Elliot Jack arrived at 4:09am weighing 8lb 9oz - direct op position, my little star gazer! Not so much as a graze and I was home later on the same day!!

So so glad that I insisted on going back otherwise I would have ended up giving birth in the back garden lol!! Hate to be the one to say I told you so lol!! Will post some pics when I get a second.

Thankyou all for all your help and support over the past 9 months - its been an absolute pleasure xxx
