I've always said I would name my daughter Elizabeth - its my gran's name and my mum's (although she goes by her middle name carol)

Just wondered if anyone had any modern suggestions for shortening it, as opposed to the older variations like Betty, Liz and Lizzy.

Also needs to go with surname Maclean

I'm not sure what you mean by modern versions of a tradional name :oooo:

Beth? Eliza? Not sure :)

I like the name though ;)

like Eliza, and you could then have Beth as a middle name :) Eliza Beth Maclean :D

Or maybe Ellie? Awww, Ellie-Beth

I quite like Ellie - but DH isnt keen on it, and I thought about Beth - but it doesnt really do anything for either of us,

Louise - I meant like if we have Elizabeth on the b. cert - im looking for a shortened version for everyday use. Like my gran is known as Betty, we also had a Bessie, and Lizzie in the family. but they all kinda struck me as a bit old fashioned.

Well my name is elizabeth and all my family call me lilly (coz my bro used to call me lillabubba when we were tiny) which I always thought was cute. If you want a modern twist on elizabeth how about Lizabeth or Elisabeth? Just for a bit of a twist?

My friends daughter is Elizabeth but she calls her Libby :)

Libby sounds lovely as Rae F suggested :) my middle name is Elizabeth :) xxx

Hehe! Just gonna throuw this one out there.......... Zeb! For short day to day use. or Zebbie!! Vey different but well cool! xx

My Elizabeth is a Lizzie but I often call her 'Lizbeth' or 'Lizbee' too :) Actually, she mainly gets called Lou tbh, just falls out of my mouth lol x

I like Libby. Isn't Effy short for Elizabeth aswell? x

Thanks sooo much for all the suggestions. Still trying to convince DH - he thinks we should just "wait till the kid arrives then you'll know what it looks like" lol - but id like to have it narrowed down a wee bit - especially when I know he's so blooming awkward. lol

I did say to my mum the other night - i kinda liked beth and Libby - but in my head Beth has brown hair but Libby is blonde (yes i know thats odd)

Hadnt thought about Lily - think i like it. I keep saying different ones over with Maclean but i have to admit I not fallen in Love with any yet.
