Helpo am so confused , looking for a steriliser and cant figure it out!!!

They say the bottles stay sterilised for up to 24 hours if lid remains sealed, so when I take one bottle out to make a feed, do the other 3 in there become unsterile??

How does it work as your not meant to pre make bottles!!

And on a rant bought a baby bath and hubby told me it was a waste of money just use normal bath, I said u try giving birth then bending over a full sized bath, bahhhhhhhh, back hurts enough already !!! :wall2:

Thanks for reading and any advice welcome.

Once the steriliser has been opened the other bottles ain't sterile so you have to resterilise them.
I made 6 bottles up at a time, it was less hassle than having to do 1 at a time and my kids were never ill.
Some girls on here boil the water and pour it into the bottles then add the powder when baby wants feeding.

I put the water in all in one go, and add the powder when needed! I couldn't do one at a time, as if you go out it would be extremely difficult, but Matthew is fine, hasn't affected him!
But then my mum used to make up all bottles for the day (with milk!) and put in fridge, and I'm fine, so I would be overly worried hun!

I didn't know you weren't supposed to pre-make bottles , I did this the whole time I bottle fed my first and my MW/HV never said anything. I had a daily routine, in the morning i'd wash & steralise all the bottles/dummies ect, then i'd make up all the 6 feeds at the one time, leave them out to cool then put them in the fridge, the 6 feeds would last thro untill the next morning. Never had any probs doing it that way. It wouldn't be easy to steralise each bottle seperate & go through the whole thing for each feed! Especially if your going out for the day ect.

Micro & electric both work the same way, the steam from the water steralises the bottles. Micro are cheaper, had electric with 1st & got micro for this one.

:)

I have both microwave and electric I love my electric one and bottles stay sterile in it for up to 6 hours aparently. I take my micro one when staying at mil just be careful when buying a microwave one mine was too big for my microwave. We make all bottles up with water too and add powder as needed never had any issues.

I read somewhere, maybe on the formula instructions, that the powder should be added to the boiling water after it has cooled for 30 minutes. As the powder is not sterile, the heat in the water helps make it so.

We sterilse all our bottles at once, boil a kettle, let it cool for 30 mins then make them up. Put in fridge until needed then heat for 50 secs in microwave.

AFAIK, as soon as you open the steriliser the contents are no longer sterile. If left inside with a sealed lid they are good for a few hours.

To be honest, most of the advice regarding sterilising ensures the best possible health for your baby, especially if in conditions that don't lend themselves to a clean environment.

I am sure most of us here are clean and tidy, wash things well and don't leave things to chance where our little ones are concerned. As long as bottles and teats are washed well there should be no problems. We wouldn't go without our steriliser though!

I've got a tommy tippee microwave sterilizer and an avent one, both great I think. I just put the hot water in the bottle and then cool it down in a bowl of cold water, then add the powder when its just warm and give to bubba. As for the sterile thing it's annoying that when you open it suddenly it's not sterile anymore, I think as long as your hands are clean and you put boiling water in then it should be safe :S that's how I've been doing i anyways... :S
