Elective section ... What are the rules?

I don't personally agree with an elective section for the hell of it with no medical grounds - but ofcourse everyone is entitled to their own labour I guess.. They recently changed the NICE guide lines meaning that you are within right to ask for a CSEC for no reason now - although ofcourse sometimes they make it difficult because it costs the service more, more staff etc and of course it comes with different risks.

Given that yours are twins though, I doubt theyd shoot you down or make it hard for you alot of people opt for CSEC with twins automatically, never mind one being breech - I think alot opt because alot of early inductions turn out to be emergency CSECs anyway - so your just as well opting straight for the CSEC if that is your choice of labour.

My friend just had twins over a month ago and delivered herself at 36w (induction) - I was mega surprised to hear that. I dont think except her I know anyone who has had twins via natural labour.

Good luck.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of sections ... They petrify me lol
But as twin 1 is breech I need to know what's happening so i can wrap my head around it and prepare myself for it mentally hence asking for one, if I'm going to have to have one I would rather have some control over it ... If that makes sense x

Twins I dont have an issue with :p I know how hard it is trying to birth one never mind two. But I dont like people having the attitude oh labour is too hard or sore, and want a section if you know what I mean? - not your case at all!

I would opt for a CSEC even if I had one breech tbh - but I class breech as a medical ground.

I think with 2 you kind of need to know when they are coming too - its a lot to adjust to. I wouldnt worry about MW refusing - infact Id be surprised if they didnt broach it with you first if you haven't already.

They haven't discussed it much as we were hoping he would turn ... I'm not convinced he has ... And the other was transvers but I think he has moved. I had my heart set on natural birth as I had that with my son and don't get me wrong it wasn't exactly pain free lol but I quite enjoyed bringing him into the world, it was a sense of achievement :)

My worry is, if he is still breech and I ask for a section, I don't want them to say no and then weeks down the line tell me I need one.

I know what you mean though I have a friend who is about 15 weeks and from finding out she was pregnant she has been admen that she wants a section x

Oh yes, birthing/pushing is very liberating I think?! I loved pushing. Especially after, OH was all over the moon and singing my praises. It was great

I dunno how early they will decide that CSEC is the way forward - I know some babies turn up till like well into weeks 30, like 37 or something but of course with two in there itll be harder to turn - I imagine?

How is your MW usually? If she says we will revisit it - explain your concerns. Your not out of line for it anyway!

I haven't seen much of midwives, I'm consultant led as I have a blood disorder,
I got caught out when I was in labour with our son, my husband is really clumsy so I always played on it when he accidentally hurt me ... He assumed I had a low pain threshold and was telling me it was ok if I needed to have strong pain relief etc, my mum gave him one look and told him how high my pain threshold was and my years of winding him up were over lol ... He was impressed though, I've only seen him cry twice so far, at our wedding and when we had our son :) x

I have a few friends with twins and all have been offered sections. They all opted to try themselves but ended up having sections.

Sections are not the easy option people might think. I've had a planned section and 'normal' and neither were a walk in the park. I have opted for anothe r planned section this time as my labour with my son ended up in me having a third degree tear, infections and illness for months and being re admitted when he was 4 weeks for further surgery. I have been offered a normal or a section but advised there is the chance the third degree could open up again and be worse this time around. So have decided best to go with section and my own GP who was they one handling a lot of my care after having him also feels it's best option for circumstances.

MrsB I think it's totally up to you and what you feel is best for you and your babies.xx

The midwife had a feel the other day and twin 1 is still breech. I don't fancy birthing a breech baby naturally. Think I have decided I am going to ask for a section as I know it gets them out quickest and safest which is the priority really x

I don't know if things have changed my daughter is 7 and was breech. To be honest as far as I'm aware it is not medically recommended to I've birth vaginally to a breech baby. I was given two options with her, let them try to turn (and if this didn't work then planned section)her or have a planned section. They told me it would not be safe to deliver naturally.

So would say unless things change it will be a section they recommend.x

The midwife said it can happen when it's not your first but it's not recommended, they can't manipulate twin 1 as there isn't enough space either x

Got my 32 week growth scan coming up and I am considering asking about having a section ... Not sure if I'm allowed to ask and what grounds to ask on though.

At the mw the other day she had a feel and thinks twin 1 is still breech. I hate the waiting game and I would just rather know when I'm having them, plus I have an irrational fear of having them either side of midnight.

Has anyone opted for an elective section? If so what grounds were they on? And are we allowed to request one?

Thanks in advance x

I asked for elective section and they accepted.
I thing recently you can choose to have planned c section

They are letting me have one .... Well technically I now have no choice as they are both footling breech x

Exciting MrsB is it good to know when it's all happening to be prepared ? X

It is :) I have never been so uncomfortable in my life, I think it's a lot to do with their positions but only 13 sleeps to go and I will meet my boys :). But it's great to know when, I have been buying some (not many) smaller grows that are up to 7lbs 8oz, and my bags are packed. Just got to do a packed lunch for the hubby on the day - although he can do his own x
