Has anyone had one and it been granted?
I have had 2 natural births, one of which I shouldnt have as he was far too big for me, 9lb7oz and I was only 17 and well lets say I had to have a lot of salt baths along with sitting on a rubber ring for a few weeks.

I never want to have a c-sec, and im glad ive experienced 2 normalish deliveries but since getting my BFP 3 days ago I have sat awake at night in complete fear!

With my daughter I had a few complications during pregnancy, I had Gestational Diabetes so I had to get induced 2 weeks early. Problems with her growth, fluid levels, worried placenta wasnt working properly, signs of pre-eclampsia and severe SPD from 15 weeks.

All said, I coped as I had too. But getting induced took a week. I could barely walk due to the SPD, I was getting up to 5 internals daily and wherent exactly gentle about it which made everything seem 10x worse. By the time it was safe to break my waters after a week I was an emotional wreck and this was noted in my notes as well, I was a proper state with it all and cos of the pain. Also, I have severe back problems. At the time of my daughters labour I didnt have it confirmed what was wrong but I was diagnosed with Sciatica. But during labour she was back to back and the whole thing was so intense I didnt think I was going to cope, but progressed too quick to get an epidural.
Since her birth I have went on to have it confirmed that I have a bulging disc that is constantly pushing on my sciatic nerve along with 2 slipped discs as well as lower discs in spine being non existant. I told my GP years ago I could feel "grinding" when I move or do a simple thing such as a pelvic floor exercise. Well 3 years later the grinding was my lower discs grinding awsy to nothing.
The thought of labour with all this is keeping me up at night!

At back of my mind this is my last baby so of course id like a natural birth, but my back is significantly worse since my daughters birth and I know SPD will return at some point as ive had it with both my children.

Has anyone had an elective c-section that could give me some advice? What is their targets to be able to give one etc?
Proper freaking out here and im only 4-5weeks gone :( x

I'm on baby number 3 too. My first was natural. 52 hours, episiotomy, third degree tear and my son had shoulder distocia. He was 9lb3. I had to have 6 months of physio after the birth and was told any future births would have to be c-section. To which I laughed and said I'm never doing that again so don't worry!

So then I went on to have my daughter. Totally freaked out thinking about having c-section. Saw consultant and he said the reason they had advised c-section was the tear, not the long labour, my son getting stuck and all the trauma. C-section was a breeze in comparison.

So this time I saw consultant at 16 weeks, and she just asked how I was and then asked for the diary to book the c-section. I didn't even have to ask!

I think you have a good case to request one. Did you have any tearing?

I had episiotomy with my son which resulted in quite a repair, I didnt get to hold my son till he was at least 2hrs old cos of the work they had to do and I was on borderline for a blood transfusion due to the blood I lost. I also had a ventous delivery with him, how could i forget that?.
With my daughter I tore and had to get stitched but no episiotomy and as far as im aware not as many as I had with my son but I still had to be put on a drip after birth just incase I lost too much blood as a precaution and was on blood thinner injections for 5 days after.

Goodness your brave I think if I experienced all that I would be gettinf sterilised, its amazing what our bodies will go through yet go back for more. I think it's right your going c sec route, definitely safest for you and baby.

I dont want it to sound like im being a drama queen or anything like that. I always vowed if I could I would never have a c sec unless me or baby in trouble and even during labour I stated to my OH even tho im screaming last thing I want is a c sec unless needed but thinking back I really dont think I can do it again. I dont wanna have to feel that pain in my back, I suffer daily enough with it as it is.

I just wondered what boxes had to be ticked to be granted elective section. I had major surgery back in 2007 and was cut open just above pubic line but a bit longer than a normal c sec opening due to getting ovary removed and a biopsy of my other ovary so I sort of know the recovery for them and with a newborn, hats off to the wonderful mummies that have sections and I vowed id never do that again but right now I prefer that option :(.
Thank you for your reply xz

I think you definitely have a good case to request one. I'm sure I read a few years ago that they now allow you to decide for yourself. And it's definitely for medical reasons.

I think you can ask now, but if not when they do the growth scans or if you get pre eclamsia and they want to induce they would probably let you pick a c section anyway if that's what you wanted x

Was the section just because of the tear? I had a 3rd degree tear after 3hr 26 min labour and was in theatre for almost 4 hour having the repair and had to have packing in for 24 hours. We are just ttc but its on my mind about what will happen to me as labour was so quick last time and went from 1cm to 9cm within 45 mins. I don't want to be in a situation like I was last time with a week stay in hospital and also worried about if I went into labour at home that it would all happen too quickly to get me to hospital and I would end up tearing again xx

I had a under two hour labour with my first and some tearing, with my second the labour was six hours and no tearing, so I would try relax it could go well x

Sorry, only just saw your message. Yes when I saw consultant, she just said because of tearing she would advise a section, to which I said ok and she booked me in there and then.

I actually thought the fact I had a previous section, a baby who got stuck and the size of my babies would be more of a reason, but I'll go with anything really!

thanks. I'm not sure I want a section, but please seem to recognise it. was worried that it would be brushed under the carpet, I would go 12 days overdue again and me up how I did last time. just feel like it needs to be controlled as 4 hours to repair isn't my idea of a minor tear xx
