Hi all I'm currently just over 34 weeks pregnant and suffering with bad SOD/PGP I'm been mulling over weather I can opt for an elective C-section? Does anyone know if I could do this due to my PGP/SPD I have a growth scan and consultant app next Thursday and wondered if it would be worth saying anything to my consultant and if they would do it for me? Would appreciate any info or advise thanks xx

Unfortunately they don't routinely allow a c-sec for spd, it's normally a choice of birthing positions instead. I feel you, I've had spd in all 3 pregnancies and it's horrendous

Aw thankyou do you know what the chances of getting set off early would? Xx

Zero if it's just for SPD, it's not deemed as a risk for baby so they wouldn't induce you either I'm afraid

:( some days I'm totally immobile because of my pain I'm hoping they may feel sorry for me at my next consultant appointment but I guess I'll not hold my breath xx

I'm pretty sure you can request a c section if you want one.

There was a lady on here when I was pregnant with my son and she had an elective section for non medical reasons I believe.

I'm not 100% on it though but I would definitely see what you can find out about your rights when it comes to your birth choices and discuss with your consultant etc.

Thankyou I'm at my consultant on Thursday and having a growth scan so il ask then :) xx

I just had a quick look online and according to NHS website, you are entitled to request a c section if you want one.

Yes you can ask but they make it very difficult foryou and try to talk you put of it. I had a pgp which was awful but I don't understand why you want a section. I had a section not elective and it was horrendous. It's much more difficult afterward. I doubt you would get one just based on that. There was one girl on here when I was pregnant who suffered and she kept fighting for a induction which she for but it was because she couldn't walk in aided anymore it was affecting her ability to look after her kids and all that. She still had to wait till she was about 38 weeks.

You're entitled to ask, but I know from experience you won't get one. A section is major abdominal surgery and takes a lot of time to heal. You will also still be suffering from SPD immediately after birth as well, so you'll be in double the amount of pain in the hip area. It's not worth it just for SPD imo, sorry to be blunt

Also a section costs either £2000 or £3000 can't remember now but a normal birth is considerably less so they try not to do them. They generally will send you to see a therapist and things like that before they agree. I have to say as if had a section it's not easy and you will be in a lot of pain for a lo g time. I'm 10month p.p and I still get twinges and there's still things I can't do x

I have a consultant midwife appointment this month to discuss my option of a section after a very bad tear alongside an episiotomy with my first ( not a terrible birth experience as I had an epidural) I'm undecided on what I want to do but they very open to discuss it with me.
I think it's a bit different now and they will take your request seriously and discuss your options with you.
As for healing after a ssction, we are all different. I have a lot of friends who have had them and they are all fine, recovered very quickly and healed well. Apart from one who can no longer feel the area by her scar.
Its worth discussing with your midwife what she believes would be best for you x

Thanks. My worry is that my PGP is severe and I have been told this baby is going to be another big baby and I'm worried pushing him out may cause damage to my pelvis. I have already had to have my pelvis front and back rebalanced/aligned. Iv spoken to a lot of people about sections and they have had emergency and elective and they have all had better experiences with the elective and recovered very well. Iv only got 5 weeks left so hoping he doesn't keep me waiting much longer. Thankyou to everyone that has replied xx

Best of luck hun, I really feel for you. I've had 8lb 6 and 8lb 12 babies in my petite 5ft frame, and was induced with #2 because of his size. They predicted 9lb and they weren't far off! It's so painful l, you just want to cry all the time

they might induce you if you tell them how bad it is hun but doubt they will do it till close to your due date im in the same boat i know how painful it is

Well just an update had my consultant app today and good news because of my PGP they are booking me in for a stretch and sweep at 37 weeks and a date to induce me early :) eeeeekk very excited now xx

glad you got some good news hun my spd is so bad i know how you feel im having a section at 39 weeks x
