When you were little did you used to get presents bought for Easter or just chocolate eggs?

We always used to get eggs but a lot of my friends used to get presents bought for them. I was talking to my Mam's friend yesterday and she said her kids are getting clothes, money and even an iPod

I reckon it's all about money these days, kids get enough on their birthdays and Christmas, never mind spending a fortune at Easter too :shakehead:

I used to get eggs. Normally around 14 of them which I'd eat one after the other. Every single easter I'd be sick without fail!
Why my mum didn't give them to me one at a time I don't know, no wonder I was overweight!

As I got older I was given presents instead of eggs.

eggs chocolate, little easter chickens...

and we used to do a hunt around the house to find them (with clues).

As soon as alice is old enough to understand, i will do the same for her.

But OH's dad has just given us £50 each and alice £25 for easter! i plan to put all of alices into her child trust fund, and split the £50 between me and alice (most of it will go on clothes for alice!).

While we are on the subject - what do you think is the oldest age for easter gifts?

I agree it is definatly all about money!

I used to get easter eggs or money for easter.

We dont buy eggs for Brooka and Olivia as they get so many off the family so we get them a little prezzie, This year Brooke has got a Hannah Montana DVD that was £10 and Olivia has got some "in The Night Garden" PJ's and a Makka Pakka soft toy that came that added to £10 altogether.

I understand when people buy little presents like that for younger kids and to be fair I'd rather give Josh a toy than chocolate (and he'll get plenty of eggs off other people anyway!), I just don't understand how older kids get expensive presents bought for them at Easter, it's like it's just another excuse to spend loads of money :?

Yea i totally agree, i mean an ipod  Thier parents must have more moey than sence. My Brooke would have to wait untill christmas for one of those :rotfl:

I always got an Easter Egg and a Disney Video!

I am keeping up this tradition with Arianna, except she will be getting Disney DVD's

We used to have an Easter egg hunt and that involved a few small choccy eggs but also boiled eggs that had been painted etc. We also used to paint our own hen eggs and stuff, so got given the little set of paints and brushes to do this with.

We never really got chocolate eggs and stuff. Defo not presents. I grew up in the 70's before the whole commercialism thing really kicked in. Cadburys Creme Eggs were *it*

Today I just don't buy chocolate eggs for anyone. I find it a complete waste of money and my eco green conscience won't go for the packaging etc either.

If I am seeing a friend with children over Easter I will get them a small, very small gift, be it some nice smelling soap or some such. Or something practical. But never choccy or anything extravagant. Thats not the meaning behind Easter and I can't see why its become another reason to buy presents.

Its a religious remeberance and celebration thats been totally hijacked and changed beyond all recognition. I prefer to leave it to the Church to celebrate it and let it pass me by.

lol funny you should say that, because it was originally a pagan celebration of the spring equinox called Ostara. The story goes that the moon Goddess Ostara is reborn at the equinox (usually around the 21st March) after 3 days in the underworld, and the symbolism included hares and chicks and was celebrated by painting eggs to give as gifts. It was a time of "spring cleaning" when a house was symbolically swept to get rid of negative influences and welcome new beginnings. It was when Christianity overtook that they stole the ideas and changed them to suit their own needs.

Sorry if that offends anyone, but its the historical truth :)

Hehe not at all

Works even better for me as I am agnostic and would rather not celebrate Church calandar dates. If I do do so, its very low key and kept more about family than things like presents and so on. Hubby is an atheist so is really not in to such celebrations.

I used to get easter clothes and maybe a bit of white chocolate

I dont like normal chocolate so they all went to my brother

i used to get Presants
as off which Braydon has got this year, saying that its only a toy truck with cars to go on cost £4 :)

We used to always get eggs!
I don't think it's so bad getting a little toy for younger kids but that argos advert annoys me at the minute saying all you need for easter and shows loads of toys! :x

I used to get easter eggs up untill the year before I got pregnant and I got £5 from my Mum & Stepdad.
Harrison isn't allowed chocolate so he won't be having any eggs this year. Me and OH haven't brought him anything, he has enough stuff already but my parents have got him a new pair of Clarks shoes, my Grandparents have brought him some new slippers & OH's grandparents sent him £5 for his bank account.

we used to get chocolate eggs.

Jess and Joe this year are getting

Jess - a Kaloo rabbit and a book
Joe - Igglepiggle and a book.

We are also having an easter egg hunt in the back garden,

I used to get about 20 eggs and because there were 4 of us my mums fridge was full for months after, in fact she even used to melt them down and make rice crispy buns with us.

This morning Me and Lee went to the Easter service with Harrisons class from school it was nice to see the kids not caring about the chocolate and gifts and enjoying the singing and service.

On sunday we are going to a massive Egg hunt a local country park, it should be great fun.

Babe, I now have no need to write my post, lol! I will admit though that even though I celebrate Ostara, I love choc eggs. To me eggs are a symbol of new beginnings...just a bonus they're chocolate

You have something very Ostara related coming your way
