Hi everyone,

Hope we are all ok.

Just wanted to say i am going to ring the hospital later to get an early scan. As last time i lost beanie at 7 weeks i am finding it hard to get excited about this pg, i am constantly worried and don't want to tell anyone.

I think if i can get an early scan it will reassure me, or confirm the worst. Either way i think i need it.

By my dates i think i am about 6 weeks. Will i be able to see anything this soon. Or should i book it for later on, and how much later on.

How early has everyone had a scan and what could they see??

Thanks,
Laura & Peanut

I had a scan at 9 weeks and it just looked like a little sausage but the heart beat was there really loud and clear!

I'm sure it will all be ok

I tried this the other day, asked for a scan just for reassurance but i got told they dont do them before 8 weeks as the babys too small to see xx

i had a dating scan at what i thought was 9 weeks, turned out i was 7w6d, i could see tiny bean which she said was about 1cm  and heartbeat. i had to get referred by my gp though as hospital wouldnt do one for me.

When you have a dating scan can they tell you exactly how many weeks and days you are or just weeks? Last time I knew exactly how far I was cos I knew my dates and stuff but this time I havent got a clue and I really want to know. If Im less than the doctor thinks (6weeks 5days) Im gonna be gutted :(

I really want a scan but like they told me, its probably too early to see anything properly.

My GP wanted me to get a scan at around 6 weeks but the EPU said its now standard practice not to see you before 8 weeks unless you have pain or bleeding.

I have to telephone the EPU tomorrow and arrange for next week.

I think you will have to ask your midwife for a reassurance scan, thats what i did and they have me booked in for wednesday this week, but i went to hospital on thursday just gone as i had pains and they did alsorts and made me bleed, but when they finally got around to scanning me i saw my little monkey nut and its heart beat and it measured up as 6 weeks 3 days, although i am still sticking to 7 weeks.

So you should be able to see a little shape, usually the shape of a monkey nut (hence the name)

Was told by the doctor to cancel my appointment for wednesday, but i havent, gonna see what happens before i decide to cancel it.

When you have your dating scan they tell you by weeks and days, so they tell you to that moment what your new EDD will be (e.g. they would tell you you are 9w 5d)

Think with an early scan your mw/ gp will need to refer you, I told my gp and mw I was concerned as I had had a mc before, but they didn't send me to an early scan, they sent me when they thought I would be 10 weeks, as round here your dating scan will be between 10 & 12 weeks.

Have a chat with your GP....the hospital will only point you in that direction anyway as you have to be referred - good luck

I had my first scan at 8 weeks and the baby looked like a baked bean :rotfl:
But I was told an estimated due date and that the growth and heartbeat where normal.
I have my 12 week scan next week

You probably won't have seen your midwife yet, but ask your GP, and if GP knows history may refer you.

I am sure at my dating scan they only said how many wks I was, but then they don't seem all that bothered about there jobs at my hospital.

Mabe it's a good job they want to close them down, but then if they did we would be going to a worse one, and people would be having babies all over the M65 too!!lol

Im just going to wait until they give me a date for my dating scan, probably be around the middle of December. Its gonna be hard waiting that long but I dont think I have any other choice.

And besides, Im sure everythings fine at the minute cos I feel really sick (Along with all the other symptoms!), usually Id complain but I like it cos it makes it seem more real that I am actually pregnant ha ha! I did another test yesterday cos I havent done any since I got my really faint positive and it was really strong, came up within seconds so that made me relax a bit more too cos I think if anythings wrong your hgc levels decrease dont they? :?

God I worry too much

Hi Guys,

My dating scan last time was when i thought i was around 7 weeks. But when i had it they found i'd lost beanie.

But the reason i had this scan i because a few years ago i did a local womens medical survey. And they say to notify them if you get pg.

Then they offer you scans at 11, 19 and 34 weeks as well as loads weird extra things like 3d heel bone scans of mother and baby etc

Last time i said i was unsure of exact dates so they lady said come in for an early scan if i want.

I emailed them this time and she said ring and they will make an apt. So i know i can get one and the sooner the better to stop me worrying. But i don't want it too soon they cant see anything. I at least want a heartbeat.

So how many weeks would that be. It will prob be a week before they can see me and i'll be 7 wks by then??

i had a scan at 6w2d and although we could only see a blob we could see the heart beating which was fab xxx

I had a early scan at just over 7 weeks, all I could see was a little grey blob, but they said they could see a heartbeat. Apparently they cannot accurately date the pregnancy from a scan till you are 10 weeks and up to 16 weeks.
I think early scans can be more of a worry than a reasurance, as its so early for thhem to tell if all is well, sometimes they cant find a heartbeat, especially if your dates are a little bit out.
I think no matter on wat your previous circumstances are, it never does feel very real untill that first scan, you convince yourself their is notin there, etc. ut if you really feel you need reasurance go for it, just dont be disapointed if you cant see much!

How do you get an early scan then? I thought they would only scan you if you were bleeding and had cramps - can you ask for one to be done anyway?

I've been symptom free so far and it has been a worry but am sure an early scan would help reassure me.... though as Cat says if they couldn't find a heartbeat because it was too early then I'd panic even more...

Thanks,

I will definately have one as soon as possible really. I think it serves a big purpose for me as last time a 7 weeks they were able to tell me i had mc and so if the same happened again i would rather know sooner than later.

Then i know i will have past my first hurdle. 2nd hurdle being the 12 week mark.

For some people it may just worry them if they can't see much but if that happens they monitor your hcg levels to make sure everything is ok. So even if it takes a week of bloodtests i'd rather that than sit here until 11 weeks then to find out i'd had a mc.

Thats just my opinion anyway,

Thats why I'm having an early scan.

I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks and again at 8 weeks and the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks both times.

I had my HCG levels monitered about 2 weeks ago and on 3 occasions they were rising as expected.
So I think a scan now would give me reassurance or at least warn me that the inevitable is going to happen.

Hi Charm,

That is exactly how i feel.

I have only just got the courage up to think about doctors and scaans and stuff and am going to make an appointment today. I was putting it off as its scary after last time but now i know either way i need to know.

Glas this pg is working out for you

Hi Laura,
I hope you get that early scan as it will help set your mind at rest... I would suggest you have a virginal scan.. ok a little unpleasent but they get much closer and better pictures. I couldn't believe the difference in detail when i got mine (sorry to say my results were not good) But my pic's WOW!
If I am lucky enough to have another chance at PG then i too will be requesting Early scans, I do feel so terrified at the thought of it tho, I know you are feeling the same way... what if?? But please be as positive as you can be! I am sure you will be fine this time...

Congratulations to you Charm  Well done and wishing you also a happy healthy PG with a wonderful baby at the 40 week mark!
Lv Yvonne xx :D

Thanks Yvonne,

I need to do it, whatever the outcome.

I also had a vg scan last time too as they couldn't see beanie in my womb. Even thought they let me pee 1st (after filling up my bladder for the normal scan) all the poking and proding i thought i was going to pee again, on the ultrasound table :rotfl:

Especially as they were looking for an ectopic (not that i knew that at the time) and were jabbing my ovaries!

Oh well, lets hope the jabbing is worth it......
