I'm aware that the advice is not to drive for 6 weeks following a c-section but was advised to check with my insurance company as to what their requirements were. I have given them a call and have been told they have in specific requirement and as long as a healthcare professional has said it is ok, then I am covered on my policy. The midwife said the main test was whether you were able to perform an emergency stop if necessary. I'm not intending to be doing a lot if driving but am beginning to go a bit stir crazy. I've hardly had any visitors and need some human interaction. I took my car for a quick test just up a quiet road and did a couple of emergency stops and it doesn't seem to be causing any discomfort. I just moved the lap belt up a bit so it's not sitting over my scar and that seems quite comfortable. When did any of you start driving again and did you have any problems? xxx

I started driving about 2 weeks after just little trips. My insurance company said they didn't have a policy on it! However I did contact my docs to check and he told me he wouldn't sign anyone off to drive before their 6 week check. But as my insurance didn't seem bothered I allowed myself to do little trips till I got the all clear :) xxx

I would be really really careful with this girls. A friend of my mums had a crash 4 weeks after a section. She's asked a mw who said it should be ok medically but as she didn't have a signed note from the dr they wouldn't pay out.
I'd really want up cover myself with a signed doctors note just incase you need to claim. Insurance companies will do anything not to pay out!

Thanks for the replies. I specifically asked my insurance company if they needed a doctors note and they told me this was not required. I'm probably going to avoid driving where possible for the next couple of weeks anyway. xxx

My Insurance said the same thing, and my GP said I could drive after 2 weeks. He gave me a note, but think I just held on to it just incase. As someone else said you have to be able to make an emergency stop. So GP will make sure you are well on your way with healing.

im hoping to go to the drs tomorrow so im going to try and get a note too as i really want to drive again, hate relyin on other people and its been almost 4 weeks now xxx

I don't think I can go 6 weeks either. Only just over 2 weeks now and tummy still sore at times but nothing major. But when can you lift car seat and pushchair as all well and good driving but not if I can't get car seat in :) x

Im just back driving this week ladies and agree with cosmic tbh
If you were in an accident and found that soneone in the offending car had just had a csection you might be cross and look into it further, causing a right can of worms. I would have felt ok to drive at 2 weeks but worth waiting the 4 weeks extra. My insurance company need you past 6 week chk by a professional.

I had my six week check monday and went in car straight after. I much prefer walking tho , far too much hassle the car, loading and unloading etc
