That hospitals charge us to have pictures of our own unborn child!? I think it is bloody scandalous! They wouldn't charge you to take a picture of them when you've given birth so why on earth should we have to pay whilst they're still in our tummies!?

I know what ur saying but its not a clinical need for there to be a picture, they are offering it cos they can and there is a want for them.
The NHS wouldn't fund the paper probably!
Consistency of pricing is an issue though, I've heard some places charge a fortune!

Xx

I don't think it's ridiculous. Hospitals don't even have to give scan photos. It's not an automatic right! The scans are done for good reasons, it's nice that they print them off but they certainly don't have to. Our hospital does give photos free of charge but I am under a consultant and he refuses to give them and sees it as unnecessary. I admit I have been gutted but that's the way it is. Some hospital may feel its right to charge for printing and why not?

I'm paying £5 for 1 picture and it is quite scandalous in my opinion!

I don't think its ridiculous either - they have to cover costs somehow?

I'd rather the NHS money went on treatment etc, than paper for photos, and think its nice that there is an opportunity to purchase them if requested.

I do think that there needs to be a review of pricing though as previously mentioned.

I dont think so. Its not a necessity, they have output costs when providing pictures.

I do however think they charge too much. X

Tapatalking :-D Can't see tickers...

Well yeah, that's my main issue with it really the fact they charge anything from £1 to £10 for a single picture it needs reviewing!

My hospital charges £5 for 2 pictures.. We actually paid for £10 for 4 so we could give 1 to the grandparents. We ended up walking out 6 pictures :).

It all goes back to the hospitals so I don't mind.

X

It is ridiculous to charge so much for a picture. I also understand where the other girls are coming from. But as long as our money is going towards to hospital for somehing important. Not like that girl wjo recently had a boob job done and WE paid for it yet a victim of domestic abuse the NHS wouldnt pay for the victim to recondtruct the damage. As ling as the money goes somewhere important

I don't know the details of how the hospital is paid for the pictures. Do you give it to the sonographers? I'm just thinking of the practicalities and 5 pounds, while it may sound a lot, could have been given a lot of thought? Imagine if it was 2.50. NHS staff are run off their feet as it is without having to deal with change and the possibilities of running out etc. £5 is an easy amount to deal with and if people want them they will pay it. If I'm wrong then cool, but it might be a possible insight into the expense.

I'd rather pay £5 for a picture than a children's baby unit lose it. Yes it would be nice to get it free but we don't live in that world any more.

We get everything else for free (at point of delivery) so I guess a few pounds isn't much to ask, when most mums wouldn't think twice on spending that on a baby grow!

Xx

As long as they are not profiteering from it and it is going back into the maternity service I think it is fine. If it covers the costs of paper, inks and printers I think it acceptable. The inconsistency in cost is not very good. It is £3 for one here which I think is reasonable but £10 is a bit much. So much of the NHS is free and abused we are very lucky to have it.

I think it's fair to pay something. In my hospital it was a donation
To a children's charity so I put a fiver in

I dont think its right having to pay but ours is 2 pics for £5 which goes to our premature baby unit so i dont mind paying

I do wonder how they come to the prices. I've had 4 scans so far with this pregnancy and have never had to pay. They always just give you two each time but I wouldn't mind making a donation x

We paid £2.50 each for some of our scans, we were under special care for a bit and had to have additional scans that we didn't have to pay for. I don't mind paying it as it is a small price but I'm not sure how it's monitored to go back in the system or if it's even logged?? We gave the cash to our sonographer and she just put it on the side and we didn't get a receipt, therefore how do we know she isn't pocketing the cash herself? I've no reason to think she wasn't genuine but how do we know it's defo going back in the system??

Xxxxxx

When you consider, comparatively, just how much you get free from the NHS during pregnancy, as opposed to in other countries, a fiver for some photos seems like a trifling amount to be outraged over.

If it is for a donation, I wouldn't mind either. But the hospital I am at has no donation service so they tell us the money is going back to the hospital... But how do we know that? :/

Where do you think it would go other than the hospital?
