Mirren?

this is my daughters name, and everyone we say it to, looks suprised and asks us to repeat it to make sure they heard right, and we get asked to spell it out all the time!

Is it really that strange or unusual? Even some of our family still call her Miriam!

be fun when she starts school:wall2:

No, I don't know anyone with that name and just as you said the first thing I did when i read it was say it out loud a couple of times because I wasn't sure how to say it and then thought of the name Miriam :oooo:

I think the kids will be fine with the name though and it does sound nice to say it, if I'm saying it right of course lol ;)

Are there any word that rhyme with it out of interest?

i can't think of anything that rhymes no! lol.

Mih-wren - can't think how else to spell to pronounce it - but Mi is not said Mee.

Kids have not problem with her name like you say and we actually mainly call her Mizzy now anyway - she answers to both and refers to herself as both :)

A friend of a friend is... Unfortunately she married a guy called Martin! Xx

I know a few Mirrens, think it's a Scottish name (i'm in Glasgow). It reminds me of Morven, which is used here aswell but not that common x

I played netball with someone called mirrien. I think its a lovely name and when i first heard she was called it thought how unusual it was!! :) xxx

I don't know anyone called that, but can't imagine why there are pronunciation issues unless im being thick which is very possible lol. Is it said the same as Helen Mirren? Or more like the end bit is '-enn' like the letter N?
Lovely name though :) xx

Became popular after the release of brave heart with mel Gibson!

It's very popular in Scotland, I really like it. Xxx

just what I was going to say! Mirren was the girl William Wallace had falled in love with but got murdered near the start

I think it's a great name- sometimes you come across people with names that just aren't as common out there but it doesn't mean it's a bad thing. My parents named me Rosemary after one of my grandmothers and I sure didn't find many of those around in my school years but I loved having a name that was fairly unusual in this day and age ^^

love it, I had a chicken called Merryn , which I think was a silly idea as I like it for a girls name.... doh

I LOVE this name for a little girl... Very Scottish and yes it's not unusual or unheard of where I am. Very pretty.
(also a football team - st mirren, paisley)
I'd love this for a little girl, but don't think I could use it now my LO is called William... People would think I'm braveheart daft!xx

I like it and know of a couple of Mirrens - I lived in Scotland. I have the same issue though with my baby name - Xanthe. You say it, they repeat it back wrongly and it just gets embarrassing, the one I had yesterday.."oh Chelsea? No not Chelsea - Xanthe. Dancy? No, Xanthe a bit like the Greek island - oh Zante, what a lovely name! Argh. Lol. It's harder to spell than say so I may give up and move to a green island lol.

glad to hear it is becoming more known - yes the same as Helen Mirren I guess. lol.

It just annoys me when people hear a name they have never come across and instead of adding it to their vocabulary they just use a more known name that sounds similar!

I must think of another name like this for baby number 3 when we have one, lol.

I have never heard of it , I do like it though, sounds really pretty.

I know what you mean about people mishearing Frankie! I get it too! People think i say Harley, Harper, Barlow, Harry!!! I nearly swore at a lady at our baby group yesterday as she keeps calling her Harper! I have corrected her every single week for the past 6 weeks! Somebody else even corrected her once! Grrrr! X
