I have worked in childcare since leaving school and when it came to picking names for my boys dh sugested a couple names but i knew a child who had been not nice with the same name so it put me is it the same for anyone else?

we had a girls name picked for ds3 as he was a yellow bump but the one dh liked the most was the name of a girl who had been horrid to me at school so although it was a lovely name it put me off totally

I agree!! I'm really struggling with Boys names because of this!! Xxx

Yes! I'm a high school teacher so I teach around 200 students every day (including my Form class) and get a new lot every year. I have been put off a lot of names whether it be down to a student's behaviour or just a very common name.

I don't think it's just teachers that have this problem, whenever we discuss names one of us knows someone with that name who was horrible or really ugly so it gets vetoed.

Yes!

I am training to be a primary school teacher. There are a few names which have been tarnished.

Xx

Apologies for any typos!

Yes! I was a nursery nurse for 8 years, and now a nanny. So many names remind me of children I've looked after!

Yes! And I also think "would I like to be a 30 year old with that name?"
"would it be acceptable in a sensible job like a lawyer or something?" x

Totally agree with this and also what cos says. I didn't enjoy choosing names at all

My baby will probably not have a name until its walking or so for this same reason ...

Yes this definitely happened to us, either people knew someone they didn't like with that name, found it rhymed with something rude/funny or stated 'they'll hate that when their older' in the end we just stopped telling people our choices :) xxx

Yep we had that! Many names became a no through association. Also my husband is a major football fan, so I had to make sure he wasn't sneakily trying to name after a footballer that he and his whole family would then be aware of and I'd be hacked off and hating our child's name lol.

For years and years I've had a boys name planned (a family name too) which is also the same name as what OH wants. Luckily it's not been over used and should be a good name to have.

However, My girls middle name (although never settled on a first name) has been used so much I no longer want to use it.. I ALWAYS wanted May as a middle name, as it has been in the family for a few generations.

No-one else in my family (cousins etc) have used it and I always wanted too. I suppose if I have a girl in a few years time I could use it, but I may wait until it's out of fashion LOL

I steer clear of any names that are overused as I don't want them to be known as such and such with surname attached as there are soo many of same name in the class!, my first son, I used Rhys , from a baby name book, and it was not well used at the time and then millions of other people must have read the book!! never again..
