Something came out of me :? Last night I ended up on the loo about 3am with terrible backache, went to the loo and when I wiped there were three lumps of white stuff. It wasn't like wiped smears but actual pea sized lumps.

I put a pad on and went back to bed. This morning there was a bit of snotty stuff on it but nothing exactly spectacular, more like a bit of my usual discharge.

Now the really disgusting part....I was getting dressed and OH was on 'sock duty' so loitering. After pulling my knickers and trousers up to my thighs I stood up to pull them all the way up and had left an almost grape sized white lump behind :puke: Went off to the loo and had a clean up and there were a couple of tiny little bits but nothing since.

It doesn't smell and I don't feel 'thrushy' or anything, but then it doesn't seem like thrush or anything. Any idea what it could be?

Dont panic! Its your plug!!! :)

Copied from my earlier post about plug to Naomi:

I lost mine a week ago in clumps of snotty like gunge ........

The first blob was as big as a grape, slimy and looked like snot!! and really really gross, more or less clear though and the rest I noticed in smaller little lumps upon wiping after I had been to the loo the following day.

Obviously I got a bit panicked as I was only 33 weeks, but have been re-assured by the MW it does not always mean labour is imminent and can happen 3 week prior to the start of anything which might then only start as niggles that take a week or so to progress.......it is a sign your body is getting ready. Some people have lost their plug at 28 weeks and still gone on to 41 weeks so don't take it that labor will def start today either!!!!

Really??

Even though when squished in T.paper (aren't I delightful lol) they actually resembled more thrush-like than slimey snotty stuff? I thought your plug was slime or jelly like? This was more cottagey cheesey stuff....which is why I was panicking....there's been nothing external iykwim until it came out....I've not been sore, itchy or even particularly 'damp' down there...

Do I need to ring the MW or anything or just mention it on friday at my next appointment?

I would prob ring the middy to ask tomorrow.....as I'm really not an expert and only basing what you have said on my own experience........

Discharge apparantly does funny things in the last tri too so it could be that......

Not trying to be nosey but have you had sex in the last 30 odd hours??

The middy asked me this after I called about my plug as sometimes man mayonaise mixed with third tri lady goo (sorry for the lovely descriptions) can resemble the plug........so it could be some mixed "leftovers" which can appear anything from clear and rubbery to white and cheesy looking..... yum..... :puke:

If it was a big glob the size of a grape I would def be inclined to think plug tho hun, and everyones is different, some is yellow, some clear jelly, some it's thicker white chunks........

Hope this helps hun:

The mucous plug or what some call the blood show is that plugs the cervix to protect your womb and baby from infection and disease.

Once labor starts this mucous plug becomes dislodged as your cervix begins to dilate. Sometimes it may only start leaking a small amount just before labor begins or it can come out all at once.

Just because you see, the mucous plug does not mean that your baby is on the way. Some women lose the mucous plug weeks before they begin labor. This just means that your body is preparing for birth. The cervix will take it own sweet time to begin to dilate and open for the birth of your baby.

The mucous plug or bloody show can be white with streaks of blood, white cottage cheese like lumps, completely clear, pinkish or even brownish. It can be either sticky, gooey or stringy. Many women do not even notice losing the mucous plug, they may believe that it is just vaginal discharge that they normally have.

Losing the mucous plug is not a reason to panic and rush to the emergency room. You should only become alarmed if the discharge is bright red or if you leak more than around two tablespoons of this type of discharge. This could mean that the placenta is breaking away from the womb or there is an abruption of the placenta. This problem only occurs in about one percent of all pregnant women.

As the cervix dilates or opens sometimes the mucous plug will only come in small portions, this is still nothing to be worried about. The mucous plug will move and your baby will have plenty of room to be delivered as the cervix dilates.

Remember though, once the mucous plug is gone, the chance of infection does exist. You should talk with your doctor to see if such things as bathing, intercourse, wearing pads, etc… are advisable.
