Decisions, decision - Midwife only care?

I am also in total support of birthing centres but do want to point out that things are sometimes a genuine emergency and there is not always as long as 45 mins to act. My son was out with forceps in minutes from things starting to go wrong as they didn't have time to wait. It was done in the room and not in theatre as there wasn't time for that. Not trying to put anyone off as sure most births don't go this way but its important to know the facts. I would always go to hospital (and will be) for this reason as I personally couldn't take the risk. X

I'm going to try and have my baby in the birthing centre. Luckily, our birthing centre is on the same floor as the delivery suite in our hospital so it's a no brainer really! Hospitals freak me out and so I feel I'll be calmer in the birthing centre bit and as others have said, stress slows down labour. Plus, at the birthing centre every room has a pool whereas in the delivery suite there's only one and I'd really like to try it.

At my antenatal class they said that 40% of first time mums manage to have their baby in the birthing centre and the others end up being transferred.

I'm not sure what I'd do if I was in your situation. I think I'd probably still try the birthing centre as you'll have one on one with the midwives who are trained to transfer you at the slightest hint of any problems.

Good luck :) xx
