We have a cruise booked and will be between 10-13 weeks when we travel (depending on dating scan)

Has anyone gone on a cruise before while pregnant - do I need to provide a doctor's note?

Check with your GP or midwife. Im not sure as have never been away when pregnant. But its better to take it and not need it than to not take it and need it... if you get what i mean x

Yeah that's what I was thinking; it might not even come up but I can't remember from last time we went on a cruise if they ask if you're pregnant on the medical form and I wouldn't want to lie or risk them not letting me get on if I say I'm pregnant but don't have a note.

I'm seeing my midwife for my booking in appointment in 2 weeks so ill ask her then. Need to make sure I change my name at the doctors too so it's the same as on my passport

Yes, best to be honest. Not only that if you ever had any concerns i know they have medical staff on board so best that they know too. Check with your midwife as she will know xx

Haven't been on a cruise but I've been abroad twice so far. I would suggest that you make sure you're travel insurance know but in most cases they don't consider it a medical condition and won't need to know but best be on the safe side. I would also make sure there's no issues with the cruise operators themselves and that you take your maternity notes with you. I can't imagine you'd need a note but I've never been on a cruise. I'm just thinking along the lines of you wouldn't need a fit to fly letter at this stage.

I don’t think you’d need a note, so early in gestation. I’d be really surprised if anyone asked for one before 24 weeks. On any case, your doctor would be the person to give you a note, rather than a midwife x

You can't cruise after 24 weeks; I might be better off calling the cruise line (although not sure what number to contact on we've booked and everything online) and asking them what I need. We've paid way too much to be turned away when we go to embark

Would you even need to declare pregnancy at that time? Speaking from a medical point of view if you became unwell you’d need to be seen at a+e if serious enough, no maternity units accept admissions before 16 weeks unless it’s for hypremesis. I think you’re right to try to contact them, there’s peobably even info about pregnancy on their FAQ page x

There is Princess but all it says is that you can cruise upto 24 weeks; it doesn't mention a note but looking online I see different advice about what they expect. So probably better to just contact them and ask. Thank you

Hi Donna who are you cruising with? They only won’t let you cruise after 24 weeks due to the risk of spontaneous labour if you are at sea it would be costly to get you safely to a hospital. I cruised with royal Caribbean about 4 weeks ago so was 8 weeks pregnant I didn’t mention it I just made sure I used the hand gels and hand washing stations to avoid norovirus.

I am also a travel agent and this is the advice I would give clients xxx

Do you know if they ask on the medical form then? I also don't know if I'll be showing by that point as well as it's my second baby (although first was 10 years ago) and I know second babies start to show earlier. Do you think they wouldn't be bothered as long as I don't look close to 24 weeks?

I'm travelling with TUI

I was aware of why you can't travel after 24 weeks and to be fair that makes sense and I completely understand that. Thank you

They didn’t ask on the medical form on royal Caribbean. I cruised on discovery last year and they asked on that one but providing under 24 weeks you will be fine. I assume you will take your notes with you also so you will have prof should they ask you :)

Yeah I'll be taking my notes with me :)

I just called to confirm if that was okay and it was really confusing I called customer welfare and they told me I should speak to customer welfare :/ they then said they leave at half 5 on a weekday (although online it says 7) so I wonder if it just automatically put me through to someone else. The guy on the other end seemed to think I'd be okay but then he wasn't exactly sure, so it hasn't really answered any questions.

LOL that doesn’t sound at all like TUI

I worked for them up until September last year and can vouch that the contact centre is shocking! Welfare is also for people with disabilities. If you pop into your local store they will be able to tell you that it is ok. I know what it’s like as I was worried about even flying as went away with work on the cruise and family holiday last month my midwife kind of looked at me a bit gone out I was asking the question as I was in a well known uniform

Yeah ill try popping in; unfortunately we booked online this year so obviously don't have the actual contact of the store but hopefully they'll at least put my mind at rest about that.

I know it sounds silly; I know a cruise is safe and I won't be far enough along etc. I'll just make sure I'm using plenty of the hand sanitiser etc. I'm just worried that I'll get to check in and when I tick that I'm pregnant they'll say I can't go as I don't have a note from the doctor or haven't filled in a particular form they want me to do. Hopefully maternity notes will cover it

Seriously wouldn't bother lol!
We booked our wedding and honeymoon then I fell pregnant 8 weeks before the wedding. I ended up being 10-13 weeks on the honeymoon.
It was horrific, honeymoon was spent in one room, in bed being sick constantly, every time we tried to go out I threw my guts up so bad (we had to spend £80 on a taxi back from a trip and I was sick 8 time just in that hour), anywhere we went I was looking for the nearest place to puke and had zip up food bags on me to puke in. I had crippling migraines and hubby had to look after me. It was a lot of money and an amazing trip wasted. Not that we regret it obviously, we would do it a thousand times over for DS, but after that we swore on no more trips and to stay home during any future pregnancies. It really was hell for me at the time, all I wanted was to go home to my own bed. I felt a lot of guilt for gunny not being able to enjoy himself too. It's certainly a holiday we won't forget lol. In the que to check in for our flight home I had to sit on the suitcase, hide to be sick, was sweating buckets and tried my damdest not to pass out as I was scared they wouldn't let me fly if I was ill, all I wanted was to go home. Hubby was literally holding me up for hours until we got on the plane.
The travel sickness was horrendous all through pregnancy, car, coach, boat, all dreadful. The motion sickness on the cruise will get to you, it's something that has never effected me before but those are literally the worst weeks of sickness if you end up with it as it peaks around 13weeks roughly.
If you really want to go away I would highly suggest waiting until at least 18 weeks when sickness subsides for the most part and your not at the uncomfortable stage yet. At least then you have a chance of enjoying it :)
Either way I hope you get to enjoy your trip!!
